Re: Merge

I was sorry to see this article merged to a list of Occupy protests. Had I seen the merge tag before I would have argued against the proposal. I won't contest the merge now, but I do plan on expanding an article for Occupy Salem in the near future. --Another Believer (Talk) 19:51, 20 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

It was merged because of WP:NOTNEWS and because it was a small-scale protest not notable outside of the greater movement. Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 20:03, 20 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Redirection without merging any of the content, which has occurred, is similar to deletion, because the information is not readily available to Wikipedia's readers. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:31, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Redirection, regardless of whether or not content is merged, operates by a different set of rules than deletion does, and an article can still be merged or redirected no matter which way an AfD goes. Those are the rules Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 01:56, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
What about WP:NOTNEWS? Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 05:34, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
You can't cite NOTNEWS for everything. The coverage for Occupy Salem came from several different news outlets, like the Boston Globe, and was spread out over a period of months. SilverserenC 05:39, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Um, the Boston Globe reference a) isn't in the article, and b) is probably to Salem, Massachusetts and not Salem, Oregon. And, yes, I can cite NOTNEWS, ONEEVENT, or any other numbers of policies. Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 05:45, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
