Fasting can cause the body to resort to fat metabolism as a source of energy. This can in turn lead to accumulation of ketones in the blood (ketosis), especially acetone, which has a sweet smell. It is possible that the effect known as the "odour of sanctity" is due to ketones exhaled by a fasting person.Sturluson (talk) 19:24, 4 July 2009 (UTC) |

Eastern Orthodoxy missing
editIt is an intrinsic part of Incorruptibility#Eastern Orthodoxy, a prerequisite for sanctification. Arminden (talk) 22:47, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
