Smith outdated
editSmith's work is over 150 years old. He wanted to group all the small tribes together as Oitaians thus extending Oitaia well beyond the bounds of Oiti. Meanwhile inscriptional evidence has been collecting. The most recent study under the Copenhagen Polis project presents a different view. These several small tribes were independent. The classical writers presented two views, one that they were subordinate to the four main groups of Thessalians and two that they maintained their independence. It was a fluctuating situation. The massive work inventory of poleis summarizes the current view presenting each small state independently. I think we should go over to that; otherwise Smith collides with the other articles, which are currently no more than a sentence, the whole issue being basically unaddressed by WP. Rewrite in sandbox
editI'm going to try to modernize this article. Rather than drop it on you I'm working it up in a sandbox, User:Botteville/mysandbox page3. This space was reserved for something else I decided to drop, Athens. Everyone wants to work on Athens. You can have it. This and a handful of other start articles need the work more. If you got something to say you can start a section at the bottom of the sandbox.
