notability?

edit

This page seems to have been created to make a point on an AfD case. Does every state agency have a Wikipedia page, or just notable ones? I'm not sure the Keller "scandal" is enough to establish notability for this organization; has anyone got anything else, or should this be AfDd? csloat (talk) 22:02, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're not really answering the question -- what makes this notable? Or is your claim that every state agency is by definition notable? csloat (talk) 22:30, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Some state agencies are notable, and in this case this agency is notable. One example of its notability is the annual budget it has of more than $17 billion. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 22:35, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The intro now states, "The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, (ODJFS), a department that employs 4,000 full-time employees, has an annual budget of more than $17 billion. ODJFS supervises the provision of Medicaid, food stamps, child welfare and child support in Ohio. Also, ODJFS provides services such as unemployment compensation to Ohio's citizens." Please review, this is a clear statement of notability. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 00:15, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it's not. It's just a description. I'm not sure the size of the budget makes it more notable than any state agency. Back to the question -- are all state agencies by definition notable? You have said that "some" are -- what's the criteria? csloat (talk) 01:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Reply Aside from the 17 Billion dollar budget, another example of the subject's notability has been the media attention it has recieved over the years. For this, please review the article. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 01:15, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
There's no need to respond to my question if you don't actually have an answer. Can someone else address this question -- what is the criteria? csloat (talk) 01:34, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please review the two article below as examples of substantial media attention. Also, for criteria concerning notability please see Wikipedia:Notability. This should explain to you the standards for notability on wikipedia. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 01:39, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the article should be kept, regardless of the motive for its creation. A large government department is always going to get news coverage and can pass WP:N requirements easily. I myself have started articles to cover redlinks. For instance Religion Newswriters Association. Steve Dufour (talk) 20:52, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

ODJFS budget = $20 billion versus $4 billion

edit

In the first paragraph, "ODJFS employs nearly 2,800 full time employees, has an annual budget of $20-plus billion.[2]",

while in the "Current director" section, we find

"Cynthia Callender Dungey is director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), a $3.6 billion agency with approximately 3,000 employees."

So, adding 200 employees cuts the budget by $16 billion and 80%?! That economy of government is inspiring!

What's wrong here? [Also, the reference pages will not load for me.] SalineBrain (talk) 17:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
