Location Dispute

Old Town's western border is Larrabee, not Halsted and its northernwestern border is the Ogden Ave. right-of-way and northeastern and eastern border is Clark St. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.169.21.1 (talk) 19:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Old Town and Old Town Triangle are two different neighborhoods. Old Town Triangle is bordered by North Ave, Clark Street, Lincoln Ave, and the former Ogden Avenue right of way. Old Town is Eugenie, Division, Halsted, and Clark.

Those borders for Old Town triangle are literally impossible (Lincoln and Clark run parallel right next to each other). But I have seen many different borders.Petero9 (talk) 02:17, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The following is from the Old Town Triangle web site http://www.oldtowntriangle.com itself:

bounded by North Avenue, Clark Street, and the ghost of Ogden Avenue (“the Triangle”).—Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.169.21.1 (talkcontribs) 18:01, 21 September 2009

  • "A portion of The Hunter starring Steve McQueen was shot in Old Town at the Ravenswood El Station." What am I missing here?

concerning the boundaries; The reference to the Ogden right of way is of perhaps interesting historical significance, but leaves one completely at a loss as to what the boundaries are. [The people who could understand from this description where the boundaries are in fact would already know where the boundaries are, and the rest of us are unhelped.] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timrage00 (talkcontribs) 18:04, 18 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Latino history

edit

A section on Latino history in Old Town was (probably correctly) removed. The language seemed somewhat provocative and the reference provided might not be considered reliable, since it comes from a (former?) gang, the Young Lords.

That said Latino history in Old Town, the ethnic conflict, gangs, etc. shouldn't be smoothed over. I'll put one link here (connected to the link removed) [1]. Maybe somebody could handle these topics in a somewhat less "in your face" manner. (or maybe Orange M and myself are just getting older).

The material that was removed had an NPOV problem. The s.p.a. (actually, an IP) inserted sections like this into history articles about a number of towns, each with Young Lords links as the source; I treated it as linkspamming. We've got to be cautious about reliable sourcing, especially with sensitive topics like this. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:01, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Understood. It would be nice if controversial topics like this could be covered in a civilized manner. Smallbones (talk) 15:25, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the Latino history of Old Town is rather important. When I moved to the area in 2003, Saint Michael's still had one Spanish language mass on Sundays, though it was soon discontinued. Amcalabrese (talk) 22:02, 19 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Business photos

edit

Shouldn't these come down? Isn't it marketing of businesses, which isn't what Wikipedia is about? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.47.15.38 (talk) 20:01, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I read the article labeled "Chicago Reader Article about Gentrification in Old Town" and it seemed a bit off topic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scroblachoir (talkcontribs) 05:55, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re-assessment

edit

I down-rated this article. Its last assessment of "B" was made before 2008. Substantial changes and content additions made since then have caused RATER to re-assess the article. More citations, re-formatting of graphics, content reference verification, and other problems are indicated needs. Please help with improving this article.
