Happy to review the article.
Review
editLead section
edit- Link Manchester; Railton Road
- done, added South London to geolocate Brixton which I don't think would be known internationally Mujinga (talk) 12:10, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Amend widely commemorated to 'commemorated' (MOS:PUFFERY)
- I was going to argue this but then there's a "wider attention" in the next sentence so ok, deleted Mujinga (talk) 12:10, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Unlink London in the infobox (commonly understood term)
- agreed Mujinga (talk) 12:10, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- England is not needed in the infobox
1 Early life
edit- Link forklift
- I don't really see the need to be honest but I suppose there's no harm in linking Mujinga (talk) 12:13, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Amend she was nine to 'Olive was nine' to avoid any confusion with her mother.
- rephrased Mujinga (talk) 12:13, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- for most of her life is redundant and can be deleted, as it is clear from the article that she lived in London after her emigrated.
- I think this was there because she spent three years in Manchester so it seems worth keeping, especially since her life was very short Mujinga (talk) 12:13, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- My error. AM
2 Adult life and activism
edit- Liz Obi is a duplicate link (4th subsection)
- Link Brixton; rape; suspended sentence (Suspended_sentence#United_Kingdom)
- The first paragraph requires a citation at the end of the text.
- done
- £10 - consider amending to 10 pounds (linked to Pound sterling)
- seems to be ok per WP:£
- Understood. AM
- Algeria on the run - ' Algeria and on the run'?
- added "whilst" Mujinga (talk) 13:00, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Morris participated in other activities, such as squatting buildings - amend to something like 'Morris squatted in buildings' to improve the prose.
- squatting buildings for community projects reads ok to me Mujinga (talk) 15:53, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies for not being clearer, my point was that other activities is redundant here, unless you add what these activities (apart from squatting) are. AM
- oh yes i see what you mean, removed other activities - as a sidenote it seems she also squatted the Race Today offices on Railton Road but I don't have a clear ref on that unfortunately Mujinga (talk) 17:31, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies for not being clearer, my point was that other activities is redundant here, unless you add what these activities (apart from squatting) are. AM
- subsequently seems redundant.
- not particularly attached to "subsequently" but it's marking the change in use from bookshop to anarchist social centre Mujinga (talk) 15:53, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Understood, it's a minor point. AM
- Leila Hassan needs to be introduced.
- rephrased Mujinga (talk) 15:34, 26 January 2022 (UTC)ed
- Her activism did not halt while she was away from London. seems unnecessary, as the text that follows makes it clear she remained an activist.
- agreed, it's a bit puffy so removed Mujinga (talk) 15:54, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Merely out of interest, is there a reason why Elouise Edwards is not also given a red link?
- nope don't think so, i've delinked Kath Locke as well Mujinga (talk) 15:56, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- She also helped - as three women are mentioned in the paragraph, I would amend this to 'Morris also helped' for the sake of clarity.
- makes sense, changed Mujinga (talk) 15:56, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- She was a founding member - 'Morris was a founding member' (a Wikipedia thing)
- sure! Mujinga (talk) 13:02, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Is on Gresham Road needed here?
- see no need so removed. Mujinga (talk) 16:21, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Consider amending Morris had helped to establish along with Elaine Holness and other members of the community. to something like 'Morris, Elaine Holness and other members of the community had helped to establish. (Elaine Holness needs an introduction.)
- rephrased Mujinga (talk) 16:21, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- this led me to notice close phrasing of a few sentences with the ODNB account so I'm fixing that Mujinga (talk) 16:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
4 Recognition and legacy
edit- after her - 'after Morris'.
- Some saw it seems vague. Can you clarify who some is referring to here?
- yeah that's not a great sentence, removed Mujinga (talk) 17:05, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Link spin (presumably Spin (propaganda)); bursaries (Bursary); mural
- only mural is left after the purges, linked Mujinga (talk) 17:06, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Consider replacing play area with 'playground' (linked to Playground)
- why not, done Mujinga (talk) 17:07, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- In 2019 this was re-launched as ROC 2.0, as the council building had been scheduled for demolition, and the collective wanted to ensure that Morris would be remembered even when the building named after her is gone. I think this needs a bit of re-working, to make sure readers follow which building is being referred to, and to improve the grammar.
- aye, rephrased Mujinga (talk) 17:02, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Olive Morris memorial award - all capitals
- newspaper is not needed.
- She was also named - 'Morris was also named'.
- Mary Seacole etc.- after someone has been mentioned, once the name appears again the person's first name is omitted. This applies through the last paragraph.

- Ditto Ref 4 (Ford).
- Ref 5 - amend Public Record Office The National Archives (linked)
- Ref 6 (Hansard) -Title case, not capitals (even though the source has them)
- Ref 8 (LA Times) doesn't link to the article.
- i've rejigged the sentence and removed the ref as no longer needed Mujinga (talk) 17:28, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ref 11 (Bryan etal) - how does this verify the text?
- i've already rejigged it a bit, the ref is confirming that Morris visited "the offices of the journal Race Today" Mujinga (talk) 17:28, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ref 19 (BBC) is a dead link.
- fixed Mujinga (talk) 17:28, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
On hold
editI'm putting the article on hold for a week until 2 February to allow time for the issues raised to be addressed. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 20:48, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the careful reading! I hope I've answered everything, there's a few queries and since I see you have already answered some I won't ping Mujinga (talk) 17:32, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Passing the article
editGreat work, passing now. Amitchell125 (talk) 18:00, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Cheers for the review! Mujinga (talk) 18:03, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- Also want to add thanks to all the other contributors on the article! Mujinga (talk) 18:08, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- That was all too quick for me! It's true I contributed to the article; it's great that it has been reviewed in 2022. Well done Mujinga and thank you Amitchell125. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 10:37, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Mujinga and Carbon Caryatid: How about you being even bolder and pushing the article towards FA? It appears that there are fewer than 100 FA biographies on women, and very few feminism articles at FA. The next step would probably be to get it peer reviewed (see WP:PR). Amitchell125 (talk) 10:53, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- I haven't attempted an FA for a long time. It would have been Morris's 70th birthday in June 2022: threescore year and ten: wouldn't that be fitting, on the home page for the day. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 11:00, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- Excellent ideas from both! Carbon Caryatid I'll set up the peer review now, good to have it done in any case and let's keep talking about FA, the June deadline seems possible at this stage. Mujinga (talk) 12:25, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Mujinga and Carbon Caryatid: I would now continue any discussions onto the talk page for this article, as this page is archived. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 13:13, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yes indeed and if you want to be involved as well Amitchell125, you'd be welcome. Thanks again for the review. Mujinga (talk) 13:20, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
