Untitled
editThis was pulled from the carriage return article:
- olivetti is the only typewriter company to accomodate the full width of the letter M.
Does it have any truth/relevance to this article? -- nae'blis 02:24, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Management
editI'm interested in the 'utopian' approach by Olivetti (which is discussed a little more in the Adriano Olivetti article). Lately I've been reading a book about John Cage, the composer (The Roaring Silence, David Revill), and Revill talked about one of Cage's views on employment. The Olivetti company was referenced, "...Cage pointed to developments at the time such as those at the Olivetti company in Italy. There, he claimed, industrial accidents had been wiped out; staff were trained how best to use their leisure time, and retired at the age of forty-five". I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this claim and if so, perhaps we should include it in the article? RSieradzki 08:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Removeal of computer info
editThanks for the recent cleanup. I don't understand why you removed the info on OMO and VNC, though. --Macrakis (talk) 14:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I kind of liked the product list too. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
the article fails to mention that Olivetti did make very sucessful 286 based PCs to rival IBMs AT at one stage One of there problems in my opionion was they tried to follow too many products at one time - I used to work fro Olivetti in the UK - first British Olivetti and then Olivetti systems and Networks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.234.21.74 (talk) 21:53, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- They made 386 PCs too - I used to own two of them. I'm not sure if they were reliable or affordable, as I got them as a gift after someone else discarded them, but they existed. Very compact little systems, with a convenient lever you could pull on the back to open the case without screws. On the downside, the extremally small case required a custom-size power supply - a nightmare for finding spares. 82.34.94.95 (talk) 10:26, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Olipad
editTheir new Olipad seems awfully similar to the ViewSonic G-Tablet (same case, same specs, same custom UI), except that the Olipad has 1 GB RAM instead of 512 MB. Any reliable source which clarifies whether this is a separate product with shared components or just a rebranded one (similar to AT&T sold rebranded Olivetti computers back in the 80's)? --MikeZ (talk) 18:25, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Malata is the real manufacturer of the tablet (SMB-A1002 model) and is the ODM also for ViewSonic G-Tablet and others. The specific model can be found here [1] and if you look at the specifications you can see that the 'client'(Olivetti or ViewSonic) was able to choose between 512MB or 1GB of RAM. --Arosio Stefano (talk) 11:44, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Italian
editAs a 12-year employee of Olivetti, I can weep when I read this article. Is there no one capable of simply translating the Italian article and replacing this flimsy English article with the transalation. Such a great company deserves much better than what is here.Abenr (talk) 15:50, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Computers
editI've added a few more computers to the list (with references). Right now its a chronological listing, but perhaps it should be expanded into its own article with two sections: History and Product Lines (ex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amstrad).The italian page is also very good with a table of all machines ( https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivetti#Computer ) 4throck (talk) 07:51, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- The section grew too long and full of minutia, so I moved it into it's own article (like we have for Olivetti typewriters).4throck (talk) 09:00, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
"Design" section edit
editI've updated the first half of the "Design" section (which now concerns only product design, awards, exhibits, and collections). The later paragraphs about graphics and architecture are mostly unchanged, although I did try to untangle them somewhat in order to retrieve/regroup the design related content. I left a few things that were unclear "as-is" (e.g., I'm not certain that the quotation at the top is cited or formatted correctly). This is the most complex revision I have attempted to date, and I am happy to re-work anything that might not be done correctly. Please review. Thank you Cl3phact0 (talk) 13:22, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

Olivetti S.p.A. → Olivetti – Concise, common name that already redirects to this article. Used by every other Wikipedia project that renders their titles in the Latin script—even the Italian Wikipedia. See also: Prada, Lamborghini, McAfee. DigitalIceAge (talk) 05:44, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
