Please change "On 17 December 1992, he was expelled by Israel along with 414 other leading figures of Hamas and Islamic Jihad to Marj al-Zohour in southern Lebanon, beyond the Israeli Security Zone."

to "On 17 December 1992, he was expelled by Israel to Marj al-Zohour in southern Lebanon, beyond the Israeli Security Zone."

The current edition "along with other leading figures" clearly implies that he was also a leading figure of Hamas or Islamic Jihad. I have searched extensively for evidence of this and not found any. The Arabic version of this entry which contains very similar information to the English version does not state this, so it appears to have been added either deliberately or otherwise and is misleading. Clear evidence is required in order to allege that a doctor was a leading figure of a group like this, which has not been provided.

The arabic section is quoted here: كان من ضمن مبعدي مرج الزهور في 17 ديسمبر 1992، حيث عمل مسؤولًا للجنة الطبيَّة في المخيم، and does not include this reference.

On 17 December 1992, he was expelled by Israel along with 414 others accused of incitement and association with Hamas and Islamic Jihad to Marj al-Zohour in southern Lebanon, beyond the Israeli Security Zone.

The phrasing of 'he was expelled by Israel along with 414 other leading figures of Hamas and Islamic Jihad' is explaining that leading Hamas and IJ figures were among the deportees, but the phrasing erroneously implies that Ferwana (and all 414 of those expelled) were leading members in Hamas or Islamic Jihad. This is not something claimed by the NYT article cited, which describes those arrested as fundamentalists associated with the groups. Other reputable sources make no mention of the Palestinian deportees being 'leading figures' of Hamas, and make mention of some of the deportations being in error. The NYT makes mention of an erroneous deportation as well. I'd like to note I have searched thoroughly for mention of Omar Ferwana as a member of either group and have not found it in English language sources.[[1]] [[2]] [1] Cowlan (talk) 00:45, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
