India?
edit"The city, now the location of the tomb of the Mahdi, grew rapidly. However, in the Battle of Omdurman in 1898 (which actually took place in the nearby village of Karari), Lord Kitchener decisively defeated the Mahdist forces, ensuring British control over the Sudan."
Karari points to a place in India, did the battle actually happened there?
Polite Request
editI request that any Wikipedians who can upload an image better illustrating the cityscape of Omdurman to be used here, such as a panorama or a street scene. To the rest of you, at least spread the word around, as someone here can probably help. RM (Be my friend)

Etymology of Omdurman
editCurrent etymology section is not only a bad machine translation (aren't they all?) of the Arabic WP article. In addition, the reference given (http://e-omdurman.net.sd/ar/) (the same one given in the Arabic WP article) is now defunct, but a search of an archived version (http://web.archive.org/web/20110614005303/http://e-omdurman.net.sd/ar/) reveals not a word about the etymology of the city's name. I am deleting the content and replacing it with a more straightforward (albeit still unsatisfactory) comment on the etymology. Akhooha (talk) 02:31, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
