What health benefits
editSince there is so much promotion of omega-7 supplements what reliable information is there ? Omega-7 Protects Against Metabolic Syndrome at least has some references. - Rod57 (talk) 21:12, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
This article does not seem to serve a useful purpose
editThere seems to be no clear justification for having an article on this topic. Omega-7 fatty acids do not seem to have any common property, chemical or biological, that makes them a class worthy of interest -- other than having ONE of their double bonds in a particular place.
At the very least, this article should clarify that the topic is omega-7 FAs that occur in the human diet, which is a very small subset of all omega-7 fatty acids. The latter include infinitely many inedible, indigestible, and even toxic FAs.
Could "omega-7" be nothing more than a meme that the oil and health supplement industries have found useful for their marketing?
Anyway, health studies that tested the health effects of specific omega-7 fatty acids should be described as tests of THOSE fatty acids, not of "omega-7 acids" in general. This mischaracterization is like describing a study of the safety of Ferraris as being about the risks of driving red cars.
Unsupported and probably erroneous information in the extraction section.
editThe extraction section has only one source which does not support the assertions made in the wiki. I suspect that a lack of understanding on the part of the wiki author is a factor as the transesterification mentioned is most likely a particular action to produce a final fuel product or a lab analysis procedure rather than a separation or extraction method. It COULD be but that doesn't really matter as the author shows no support and fatty acid extraction from plant sources is not the same as separation of the individual fatty acid components which requires breaking up the triglycerides. That would be extraction vs separation. I suspect the wiki author has never been a member of any professional organization dealing with fats and oils. And the wiki author likely has no particular experience or grasp of the subject.2600:1700:6D90:79B0:64EB:BF43:12FE:C130 (talk) 21:42, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
