Far too many images crammed into the article, with overly verbose descriptions. I have uploaded all the images to the Ontario Science Centre category at the Commons, reduced the images in the article, and placed a Commons link here. Skeezix1000 13:11, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oddly, "overly verbose" is itself verbose.

Not really. You can have degrees of verbose. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:06, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Architecture

edit

More details bout the architecture and design of this building, please -- particularly prior to the mall-ification of the entrance. The original entrance was a true spectacle. To the children who visited, the original entrance was an unmistakably profound statement, "This is important!" and the contrast between that and the plainly made-for-children atmosphere within was itself a profound statement of optimism about the present and the future. There was something decidedly Gentle-Giant about that building. Children had to pass through the melodramatically imposing entrance to discover the playground within. Hmmm ... does that describe the very experience of learning Science? I hope somebody has some detailed information -- including images -- about the original entrance and can add it to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.0.204.219 (talk) 19:02, 17 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Intro

edit

The intro section is far too long. Much of that info needs to be moved down into additional sections. Hours of operation and how long stuff is open over the course of a year shouldn't be included unless notable. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 00:03, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The intro had been split into three sections. Johnny Au (talk) 04:51, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
The hours of operation section is removed. Johnny Au (talk) 05:00, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hydraulophone

edit

Steve Mann has mentioned (in person) that he designed the hydraulophone present at the OSS. Besides the official paper on his website, is there any 3rd party support to this claim?

charlie liban (talk) 19:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As of summer 2016, the hydraulophone is no longer functioning. The units leak a small steady stream of water, the pipes are clogged with algae, and the pumps do not function --scruss (talk) 02:31, 20 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I can't understand why some editors don't realize that if you're going to add information about special events, you need to indicate the YEAR in which the events take place. This isn't a blog or news where things like "next Saturday" is acceptable. For this reason, under the "Special events beyond regular hours" section I had to remove the bit about closing during March Break because no year or other context was provided. I replaced it with the current Harry Potter Exhibition. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 06:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

For time-sensitive references, the Template:As of is very useful. Reify-tech (talk) 15:57, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Article needs updating and expansion

edit

This article needs a lot of work. For example, there is no mention of the Imax theatre, other than via a Category. There is scant coverage of permanent exhibits or highlights of the collection. The infobox lacks basic data like visitor numbers, budget, staff, facility size, or public transit access. Specific details subject to change, such as hours of operation and admission/membership pricing are less important, and should be omitted. Also, the citations need to be expanded. I'm sure there's usable press coverage, and there must be annual reports and other OSC publications that can be referenced.

Contrast this article with the articles for comparable museums, such as the Exploratorium or the Museum of Science Boston. I have not been able to visit Toronto for too many years, so I can't update the article based on first-hand observations, but I have fond memories of the OSC and its people. They deserve better coverage! Reify-tech (talk) 15:57, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have done a few updates, but more updates are needed, along with some more expansion. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:20, 21 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Ontario Science Center was just closed, not without some controversy. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-science-centre-closing-roof-1.7242810 98.1.43.226 (talk) 02:53, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
