Talk:Ontario tobacco belt

Latest comment: 4 months ago by Toyokuni3 in topic Variety

I have removed the following uncited claims from the article:

"Desertification can only be prevented if the amount of forested area in Norfolk County is increased to at least 34%. However, this would conflict with human development, especially with the need for more farmland to be created for farmers fleeing the gradual urbanization of the Niagara Peninsula and prime land to create opportunities for future housing projects. The loading of phosphorous acid on Lake Erie is slowly turning the southern coast of the Ontario tobacco belt into an unrecoverable dead zone."

If accurate references can be noted than this should be reincluded. However, without such references, it is an unverified claim which should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.143.48.172 (talk) 00:37, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Some mention should be made of what was/is grown. I think it's probably Virginia bright leaf, but I don't know that for a fact. Toyokuni3 (talk) 17:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
