Bombing the US in 1940?
editI have removed the following statement from this article as it is unsourced and appears to be rather unlikely. If anyone can provide a source it should be restored. --Nick Dowling 11:18, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Operation Ikarus was hatched with the ultimate goal of providing an airbase from which German planes could launch bombing campaigns on American soil. An airbase in Iceland would cut the distance between Germany and the United States by one-third, allowing planes to successfully reach their American targets and return without having to refuel. Although never realized, Operation Ikarus provides insight into Hitler's plans of attacking the then neutral United States.
