At present section 6 of the article 2003 Invasion of Iraq is an extensive treatment of the military operation. There are, however, separate articles for Operation Telic and Operation Falconer (actually a redirect to Australian contribution to the 2003 invasion of Iraq). Please also see Category:Operations of the 2003 Iraq conflict. Presumably, a separate article on Operation Iraqi Freedom or the U.S. contributions to the 2003 invasion of Iraq would need to be more extensive than the present section 6. -Acjelen 02:58, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

However, Operation Iraqi Freedom is the name for the entirety of the war. So, whereas Operation Falconer and Operation Telic are separate operations worthy of specific discussion, Operation Iraqi Freedom IS the Iraq war, so there's no reason why there needs to be a separate article for a SYNONYM! Actually, "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is not the name of the entire ongoing war. It was the name of the invasion operation. I thus changed the redirect to 2003 invasion of Iraq, which already says it is referred to as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" (as opposed to "Iraq War", which does not). —Wookipedian 20:20, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

To bolster the above assertion, here is a place where Tommy Franks uses past tense to refer to "Operation Iraqi Freedom" [1] and here is a GAO report talking about the "Aftermath" of OIF, which would seem to imply that it is over [2]. Here is a page that says that OIF lasted from March 20 to May 1 of 2003[3]. Isn't the term for the subsequent conflict something different? —Wookipedian 20:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

All ongoing US military operations are still part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tommy Franks is referring to Phase 3 operations which constituted the invasion of Iraq. All operation after the end of the invasion are considered Phase 4 of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For reference...go to this US Army page and put your cursor over the red dot over Iraq and it will show you the start time for the operation but will not show and end time. Go to the any US military website and read a few articles and they will say that current deployments are in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For example...the US Marine Corp's official website has links to OIF pages on there website here and those articles are not from 2003. Please do not revert this again as your assumptions are incorrect. Also for the record, OEF operations constitute ongoing OpsAfghanistan and the operations around the Horn of Africa--Looper5920 22:09, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the info and sorry for the disruption. I'm sure that you can see from the sources I cited how I could have gotten a different impression. These folks should really try to avoid using past tense to discuss their operation if it isn't over. Probably this should be clarified in the text of the articles somewhere. I'm feeling kind of dubious on this. The army and marine sites linked above no longer works. In general, I feel like the term "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is almost always used to refer to the 2003 invasion, and not to the subsequent occupation.
