This article began to sound like a persuasive essay. It wasn't providing all of the necessary facts, instead only presented certain facts, like only mentioning streptococci and no other bacteria. The article also used direct quotes from their sources, instead of phrasing it into their own words and then citing the source. The lead paragraph lacked necessary information for the reader. It should have addressed what harmful effects there are if proper oral hygiene is not followed and instead of addressing just the two main components or oral ecology, it should have addressed them all. In the "diseases related to oral hygiene" section, there are no actual diseases listed, it just states that the risk for getting sick with bad oral hygiene is increased. This needs to have actual diseases listed, along with a hyperlink, or list of symptoms, treatments, diagnosis, etc. The references section lacks proper citation format and includes incomplete references. I was distracted by the lack of the articles ability to stay on topic and provide interesting facts. The article was not heavily biased but certain claims and then lack of research supporting it were proposed in the article. It should be all fact-based, and there should not be anything to sway the reader to feel a certain way.Verashark (talk) 18:15, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I agree with your suggestions for this article as well. Since it is up for debate whether this article is merged with the oral microbiology page, I would also suggest that, if this page were to remain separate, there should be distinction between this and the other page. Some big-picture ecological relationships and how they interact may help tie in the "ecology" part of the title. Lilyseeker (talk) 05:57, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Editing the article

Hi all. I'm planning on rewriting this article to remove some of the personal nature from the writing style, improve the sources cited (more research, removal of certain sources such as the "dentist over email" one), and adding sections on the oral ecologies in organisms other than humans. If anyone has any resources for that last past, that would be super helpful! Crobial (talk) 14:31, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I also would like to add that I'm doing a pretty big overhaul, because I feel that this article does not stay on the topic of ecology particularly well in any of its sections. If this is a problem let me know Crobial (talk) 20:28, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi all, I've replaced two sections so far, the lead and the history. The original sections were not really appropriate and workable, which is why they were entirely replaced. The lead was short and not very relevant to the topic, and the history section (as well as seemingly all other original sections) have no bearing on oral microbial ecology explicitly. Instead, they discussed microbiology, but not ecology, and used very vague language, direct quotations that weren't necessary, and poor references. Original history section almost entirely contained information about the discovery of microbes and nothing else, which is more appropriate for the general microbiology page's history section. I attemped to emphasize the oral microbial *ecology* history in this revision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crobial (talkcontribs) 14:24, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
