Most of the recent changes have been helpful, but I don't really like the changes made to the insignia section, made in December but which I only noticed today. First of all, the original small caps used to quote the capitalized Greek on the badge look neater and don't overwhelm the lower-case text like the current caps do. Second, the translation is too informal-sounding. This is Septuagint Greek which would sound very formal and archaizing to a modern Greek spaker, and I think it deserves the archaizing KJV English translation to reflect this. If the medal sai «Το χέρι σου...» etc. it would be a different story. Thirdly, someone deleted the chapter and verse, which make it easier for the reader to look up the passage quoted if he so chooses. Note on the cross: we were both technically incorrect. If you go to the official webpage and look at images of the medal, and then consult the cross article it is clear the shape of cross used is not a Greek cross, nor a Maltese. Rather, it is a Cross pattée - a common form for military medals. A Greek cross has arms of perfectly equal length with no flaring, and the Maltese is indented at the end. --Jpbrenna 05:59, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I've put in some links to the religious concepts and tidied up the English in a few spots. I also looked at the official website again, and while it uses the modernist translation quoted, I think that's rather bad form, and I'm writing to the webmaster to tell him so. The original Greek is in the nominative, but this modernist translation begins with a prepositional phrase, so it fails on technical grounds. Stylistically, it really sounds way too casual, entirely losing the gravitas of the Greek (and, I would presume, the Hebrew). You would never hear a Bible verse way in an Orthodox church in America, even one that has switched entirely to English for its liturgy. So, let's keep the KJV translation, and hopefully we can get them to change the website. --Jpbrenna 06:37, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Officer of the Order of the Redeemer

British officers were appointed as Grand Cross/Grand Commander/Commander/Officer/Chevalier but the last two are not mentioned. Anybody know if Officer and Chevalier are the English terms for the "Gold Cross" and "Silver Cross" and if so should it be mentioned in the text, thanks. Should a category of recipients be established?

I was working on a page of someone who had received this award when I realized this is one of the awards without a corresponding category page. Would it be fine for me to make a category page for this rather than list it out here? Bgrus22 (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
