Talk:Orkney Wireless Museum

Latest comment: 16 years ago by G J Coyne in topic Pictures

Perhaps the information relating to Jim MacDonald should be placed in an article for him? This could have reference to his unpublished notes regarding the Orkney barrage balloons which is not a wireless topic (though the museum might have photographs and other material).

Netherbutton Radar Station is a notable early radar station and is probably worthy of its own article too. G J Coyne (talk) 19:49, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

As the museum has a section dedicated to Netherbutton Radar Station, I intend to add a sub-section to this article on this when I have time.

I also have a picture of the museum which I intend to add G J Coyne (talk) 20:56, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article is in effect a stub and currently I don't know how to flag it as such. It needs development. A better summary catalogue of notable content of the museum, cross-referenced to other articles (say of tanks/vessels/aircraft) would improve the quality & usefulness. R Brewster appears to have written a number of articles including one on Orkney Wireless Museum, so I have referenced his article as a reliable author of a secondary source - there is a copy of it on the internet, so it is easily available for verification. I hope to find other printed secondary sources off-line.

Brewster notes that the World War II displays are "of major interest". He says ""Fortress Orkney", as it was known during World War II, was the location of the Home Fleet at Scapa Flow".

He also notes: "Of special interest is the extensive photo archive display covering virtually every aspect of life in "Fortress Orkney"".

The museum is a small organisation and apparently it has supported itself over a significant number of years through entrance fees and donations raised through the supporting society, but it is no less notable for all that. It has a rare archive of equipment and material retained in the original (if somewhat out-of-the-way!) historical location of Orkney. —Preceding unsigned comment added by G J Coyne (talkcontribs) 09:01, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've added a reference to the Living Orkney magazine article of Sep-2006. This is another third-party reliable source and a substantial article. I intend to include some quotes from it. G J Coyne (talk) 07:15, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm struggling here. I am a newcomer to Wikicommons. I uploaded two images related to the Musem there and categorised as in Museums.

I attempted to embed a link in the article. I couldn't see the picture. Help! G J Coyne (talk) 17:18, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I struggled & eventually won! Picture link included now. G J Coyne (talk) 07:16, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
