Exactly. Because some 'tard' here is totally dependent on the MU way of thinking, never progressed beyond, and is not trying to convert the world. Of course there is nothing orthodox about them. Try 'crippled' - a much more appropriate term. I suspect the MU Commander people are behind it, shilling their own product. Who dreamed up this definition? A Google search for "Orthodox file manager" yelds a measly 305 results. Moreover, there is NO MENTION of this thing in the Jargon file. The term "orthodox" is NEVER mentioned in GNU Midnight Commander 's home page. I think everyone knows your opinion. You're not getting very far by writing (unsigned) criticism all over this page. We had the AFD following the comments from 88.149.168.128. Since then, there seems to have been two complaints about the name of this article & both came from anonymous IPs. I think that deletion of this article is unlikely, but we do have a process for that if it is something you believe so strongly in. A move might be more reasonable, since the article (while not well written) is hardly "nonsense" & does describe something worth describing. I don't think anyone would argue that "orthodox file manager" isn't a neologism. However, it is a useful one. It has been adopted on the interwikis, by DMOZ, and by others. --Karnesky 23:17, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Inappropriate

Unless the term is a de facto standard - which it is not - then the use of 'orthodox' to describe something as retarded as a Norton file manager is tantamount to shilling and advertising. I strongly object to this. This page was evidently started over two years ago from an IP in China. I call on Wiki to show more discretion and as others I call on Wiki to IMMEDIATELY remove this STUPID PAGE. FTP

Is FTP really a common feature of orthodox file managers? Also, the examples section is far too long. Someone who knows which of them are notable should crop it, and remove the misplaced external links at the same time. Amaurea 12:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Lousy wording

I'm not familiar with this subject, so I don't dare edit the page, but I find the wording so poor that I can't concentrate on the subject matter. Would somebody kindly correct the confusion over windows and panels, at least? "Windows called panels" makes no sense. If you're going to call windows panels, what are you going to call panels?

Incidentally, the controversy over the use of "orthodox" is trivial, in my opinion. Somebody probably chose the word for its meaning, perhaps without realizing that "ordinary," "conventional," "plain," or "simple" would have served the purpose, but with more common words.

In Windows, the usual key for switching among panes (Are panes synonymous with panels?) is F6. Does this key behave differently in file managers of this sort? D021317c 22:35, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
