Irish?

I question the description that he was "Irish". He was born in Ireland but he came from a family of Church of England vicars in Suffolk. His father was the principal of a Belfast School at the time of his birth but was certainly not Irish. I suggest "British" would be more accurate. That was certainly his nationality. Did you verify the claim? It's frankly irresponsible to take non-response (especially in a short time like 8 days) to mean "my statement is correct". Please use a reliable reference, don't add things that you just "think" are right. --Charlesreid1 (talk) 05:22, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

I've reverted this and added a source from a reputable website that is prominent in search history. In the absence of an source verifying that he rejects the idea of being Irish, then it should be left as Irish. His religion is not relevant to whether he was Irish or not. There are very few countries in the world where your place of birth gives you Nationality. In most countries you inherit your nationality from your parents. The USA does grant nationality to babies born in the USA, but as I say this is unusual. It seems that Reynolds was ethnically English rather than Irish. His paternal ancestors were certainly English, his father just happened to be working in Belfast when Osborne was born. I would be happy to say that Osborne Reynolds was Irish-born, but there is no evidence to say that he had Irish citizenship or felt himself to be ethnically Irish. So it would be a mistake to describe him as Irish. Most online biographies indicate that Osborne spent only the first few months of his life in Belfast, he spent the rest of his life in England.
