He died in an accident on the Autopista 5 between Cabarete and Sosúa.

According to Oscar's family he was born in Sosua, Dominican Republic not Puerto Plata. Cococmc (talk) 20:20, 27 October 2014 (UTC) [1]Reply

Error in introduction

edit

The introduction to this article says Taveras hit a home run in his first big league at-bat. However, Taveras didn't hit his first home run until his second at-bat. The first at-bat was a lineout to left field. Lede

  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section, the lede of this article stands alone as a concise overview and summary of the article. The lede defines Taveras, establishes context for Taveras, explains why Taveras is notable, and summarizes the most important points of Taveras' life.
  • The Oscar Taveras image is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 and is therefore acceptable for use in this article.
  • The template is formatted beautifully and its content is cited within the article's prose.
  • The lede is well-written, its contents are cited below within the text, the references are verifiable, and I have no other comments or suggestions for this section.

Early life

  • Rather than say began twice in the same paragraph, I wonder if commence would work in either of these cases.
  • Perhaps reword after the quotation, "recounted his father."
  • The quotation box may not be necessary as the quotation is mentioned in its entirety within the prose.
  • ..."and obtained Canadian citizenship."
  • Otherwise, this section is well-written, its contents are cited within the text, the references are verifiable, and I have no other comments or suggestions for this section.

Professional career (2009–14)

  • The image of Taveras during spring training in 2013 is licensed CC BY 2.0 and is therefore acceptable for use here.
  • An inline citation is needed at the end of the last sentence of the first paragraph within the "Springfield and Memphis (2012–14)" subsection.
  • The image of Taveras before a game in St. Louis is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 and is free to use here.
  • Per Wikipedia:Inline citation, it is suggested that inline citations should be consolidated at the end of sentences and paragraphs, and not within. But of course, this is not a deal breaker, and is merely a suggestion.
  • Otherwise, this section is well-written, its contents are cited within the text, the references are verifiable, and I have no other comments or suggestions for this section.

Skills profile

  • This section is well-written, its contents are cited within the text, the references are verifiable, and I have no comments or suggestions for this section.

Death

  • This table is beautifully formatted and its contents are internally cited within the table.

Issues all fixed. Thank you for the review! Wizardman 16:54, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wizardman, thank you for your speedy response to my comments and for addressing them in the article. Upon my review and re-review of the article, I find that it easily meets Good Article status and hereby pass it to GA. Congratulations on a job well done and for crafting this biography honoring Taveras' successful yet brief career. -- Caponer (talk) 16:56, 22 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
