oversee education ?

edit

I changed the following:

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board is a group of 14 trustees elected to oversee education in the city of Ottawa, Ontario.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a common problem in school district articles in Canada, in over-generalizing the power of the main public district. There are other school districts (with overlapping territory), and there is also more to education than K-12 (which is all a school district has authority over, though it may opt to do more). The word "oversee" implies this district/board is somehow above others, which it is not. There's lots of Education in Ottawa this district does not "oversee". --Rob 08:03, 28 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

There is a statement that could use some clarification:

"... The district is also responsible for publicly funded K-12 schools in its territory excluding those operated by Francophone (i.e. French Canadian), or Catholic districts (which are also publicly funded)."

Here are the questions I have regarding this statement:

  1. Is the "district" responsible, or is the "school board" responsible for publicly-funded K-12 schools?
  2. Also, when it says "...Francophone..., or Catholic districts (which are also publicly funded)...", does that mean that both Francophone and Catholic districts are publicly-funded, OR is the statement suggesting that ONLY schools in Catholic districts are publicly-funded?
  3. Either way, who is responsible (funding?) these other schools if the OCDSB is not responsible for these schools?

For now, I shall tag this article for cleanup until this issue is resolved. Folajimi 17:51, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
