External links modified
editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Ovation (U.S. TV channel). Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive http://web.archive.org/web/20121024122704/http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070605/tv_nm/ovation_dc to http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070605/tv_nm/ovation_dc
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}
).

editI along with a group of friends & neighbors totally enjoy Boston Legal. Our question & concern is your limited episodes. First we hope you'll continue carrying the show & secondly will there be a wider group of episodes? In the time we've become again hooked on the show, we've seen the same shows more than twice. Please please give your viewers what they want. It's also allowed us to enjoy quite a few of your movies! And donate to the Arts! Thanks for your time. Linda454 (talk) 22:18, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Updating this page
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi Wikipedia! I’m on the staff at Ovation so I have a conflict of interest. According to the box on top of the page, it’s lacking the necessary citations for verification. The proposals below fix that and offer some updated content, too.

I. What I think should be changed: Please replace the first sentence in the Lead paragraph: Ovation is an American television network whose focus is on the fine arts and contemporary culture. Please replace with: Ovation is an American television network,[1][2] and digital media company,[3] whose focus is on the fine arts[4] and culture. [5] Why I think it should be changed: The suggestion replaces the current unsourced version with a new one based on reliable sources. The new version reflects the company’s expanded scope as supported by leading publications. I also removed “contemporary” as a descriptor of culture, because it’s not supported by the sources. References supporting the possible change::[1][2], [3], [4], [5]
Please remove the second sentence in the Lead paragraph: The network is owned by Ovation LLC, which is made up of a joint venture of Hubbard Media Group, and the private-equity funds Corporate Partners II, Arcadia Investment Partners, and Perry Capital. Why I think it should be changed: The sentence contains no citations and offers an excessive level of detail about minority stakeholders that doesn’t belong in the article, let alone the Lead. Information about ownership is already included in the History section. III. What I think should be changed: Please add a sentence after the first sentence in the Lead paragraph: Ovation was created in 1996.[6][4][7] Its programming includes Inside the Actors Studio,[1] Murdoch Mysteries,[8] and Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators.[9] Ovation also operates the travel and lifestyle-focused[10] streaming platform Journy.[3] Why I think it should be changed: As it is written now, the Lead contains no information about the company’s origins, its leading programming or the major streaming service it launched. Further down, I’ve also proposed a sentence about the streaming service to be added to the body of the text. References supporting the possible change: [11][4][7][1][8][8][9][10] [3]
IV. What I think should be changed: Please replace the first paragraph of the History section. The channel was launched in 1996, mainly with spread-out coverage throughout the country and no satellite carriage, with its major coverage with the urban base of Time Warner Cable. Under this form, its carriage was limited, as cable providers did not see much popularity or requests for the arts-based network, as had been seen in the past with networks like CBS Cable, or former arts networks that went for a more broad-based focus, including Bravo and A&E. Please replace with: Ovation was created in 1996[6] as a network focused on classical and fine arts-related programming.[4]
The paragraph is unsourced and aside from the date of founding, I can’t find sources to support the rest. The paragraph seems to veer off-topic and delves into unnecessary detail that doesn’t seem encyclopedic. The replacement I’ve suggested establishes the date of founding using high quality sources. References supporting the possible change: [6][4] V. What I think should be changed: Please replace the second, third and fourth sentences in the second paragraph of the History section: In June 2007, the network was re-launched, coinciding with its addition by DirecTV, which gave the channel full national coverage. In 2008, Ovation also became available on Dish. With the relaunch, Ovation TV claimed an "energetic" new look and a new primetime schedule revolving around "genre nights" dedicated to performance, people, and film.[12] Please replace with: In June 2007, Ovation became available on DirecTV, giving it a bigger audience.[4] The network expanded its programming to include photography, film, and contemporary music.[4] Following its inclusion on DirecTV, Ovation added genre nights for programming including theater, design, and artist profiles.[7] In 2008, Ovation acquired the network International Music Feed,[5] absorbing some of its programming and taking over its slot on the Dish Network.[13] Why I think it should be changed: The current second sentence is unsourced. I replaced it with a version sourced to a leading publication. The third sentence contains no citations and the fourth sentence cites a broken link that I couldn’t recover. The existing language is also promotional. I’ve found reliable sources with similar content to these sentences for the replacement. References supporting the possible change: [4] [4][7][5][13]
Please add a sentence after the last sentence of the second paragraph of the History section: In 2017,[14] Ovation created the travel and lifestyle-focused[10] streaming platform Journy,[3] which became available on Roku and Xumo devices.[15] Why I think it should be changed: The creation of the streaming service was covered by multiple press outlets. I also suggested adding it to the Lead in item I, so if approved there, it should appear in the body of the article as well. References supporting the possible change: [14][10][3]
Please replace the first and second sentences of the third paragraph in the History section: The network's investment by The Weinstein Company would come into question in October 2017, when Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault and abuse allegations came to light. Two weeks after the first public reports, the network's board notified Harvey Weinstein on October 24 that he would be expelled from any further involvement in Ovation. Please replace with: In October 2017, Ovation’s board of directors voted to expel Harvey Weinstein from the board after he was publicly accused of sexual assault and abuse. [16]
As written, the sentences contain no citations. I could not find a source for the first sentence. It seems a bit like editorializing. The second sentence was easily sourced to leading publication. References supporting the possible change: [16]
Please remove the second paragraph under the Carriage section and the first paragraph under the Programming section: The network was carried on Dish until April 6, 2015, when it was removed from that provider at a nadir for the network where it originated little to no programming and had drifted towards carrying low-prestige Hollywood films out of format. Providers refused to renew the network under this guise, and by 2017, it had begun to acquire overseas and prestige product anew to avert the network's demise. Ovation programming is a mix of original and acquired television series, films, documentaries and specials, targeting a multi-generational audience. Why I think it should be changed: The paragraphs are unsourced. I could not find sourcing for the first paragraph. The second paragraph contains the type of advertising language noted in the warning flag: “Ovation programming is a mix of original and acquired television series, films, documentaries and specials, targeting a multi-generational audience.” References

I believe that the changes suggested above should supply the necessary citations for verification that were lacking in the original article. I therefore ask that the flag at the top of the page be removed. Thank you for your time and assistance. Brennon16 (talk) 19:10, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
