This should be a "List of..." page, not a disambig
editSee List of Chinook Jargon placenames. Owyhee is the CJ word for Hawaii, just as Kanaka is for Hawaiians; but I didn't add the Owyhee placenames because they're already here; I just think this is more of a "List" page than a disambig.Skookum1 07:17, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Still don't think this should be a disambig; there's a need to discuss the term which lies outside the usual content of a regular disambig page. I added a bit, and would have also added something about how "h" was often used to represent glottal-stops, as also in tyhee, a variation on the usual tyee in Chinook Jargon - "Owyhee" is actually a pretty close representation of how Hawai'i is properly pronounced if that is taken into account. Again, this was the old standard-spelling of Hawaii; up to what date I don't know but I know it was current in BC historical sources into the 1880s...Skookum1 (talk) 17:27, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
