Toys

Paddle dolls were not "TOYS". They were made by the egyptians as an "escort" for the dead. They were made in replication of or replacement of servants or concubines. These dolls were made to accompany and serve the dead, their master, in and through the underworld and afterlife. The dolls were made to look like the person that they were accompanying, so as not to be confused as somebody else's. (submitted by User:Melissa str79, 24 March 2010)

Thanks for your opinion. As in most archaeological topics, there are many of them to go around. This article first portrayed the dolls as toys then moved to a more ritualistic viewpoint. The reality, which we will probably never really know, may include both options. Oh -- please sign you comments! GwenW (talk) 00:37, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
