Mission statement
editI feel that mission statement really does detract from the article. Mission statments are thought up during acreditation and are almost all along the same lines thus very few other HS pages have mission staments on them. It adds no information to a general use encyclopedia and takes up page space from more pertinent info. --Daniel J. Leivick 22:25, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't necessarily think it detracts from the article, however, if you truly believe so, I (or you can) will remove it. You are a more experienced editor than I, though. We can remove it for the time being, but I would like to get more opinions about it. If anyone else comments on this talk page regarding it, I will note their opinions. Thank you for your interest in the article and your timely response. -- Steven Williamson (HiB2Bornot2B) - talk ▓▒░ Go Big Blue! ░▒▓ —Preceding comment was added at 14:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
J.R. VanHoose Notability
editJ.R. VanHoose does not meet Wikipedia's notability requirements and should not be included as "notable alumni". Being from Paintsville and an alum of PHS myself, I know that J.R. is a local hero to the small town of Paintsville, but he is not notable in the sense that it brings gives anything useful to the international community. His name being added to the list just looks like an attempt to have his name listed on Wikipedia. Please explain your rationale on this discussion page before re-adding J.R. VanHoose to the list under Notable Alumni. Thank you. -- Steven Williamson (HiB2Bornot2B) - talk ▓▒░ Go Big Blue! ░▒▓ 20:41, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Steven, J.R. VanHoose has a laundry list of accomplishments that easily qualify him to be listed on wikipedia. A standalone article about J.R. is currently under review by Wikipedia. According to the "Amateur sports person" section of Wikipedia: Notability (sports), he has met two out of three of those requirements. I understand you graduated from Paintsville yourself, but I'm unsure if you're aware of the national media attention J.R. received from Playboy Magazine, Gatorade, Adidas, and Slam Magazine from 1994-2002. He is also a Verizon Wireless All-American and holds records at Marshall University. He is more than a "local hero". I'd consider his accomplishments notable... I am going to correct the article, yet again, please do not remove it. Thank you for your help. -- Kayla Moore — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaylamoore (talk • contribs) 16:08, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
NRHP
editThere is listing for Paintsville High School in the National Register of Historic Places, reference number 88003163, January 26, 1989. The building was built in 1918. The picture does not resemble typical school architecture of that period. Since the NRHP designation goes with this building and not the school itself, it is unclear if the school should be linked to the NRHP. Does anyone have information on the 1918 building? Right now I will mark the NRHP project box as "nneds-infobox=no." When we get information on the 1918 building, it could be referred to in this article in a separate article "Old Paintsville High School." KudzuVine (talk) 17:18, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
