Area or park
editIs Pallister an area or park in Berwick Hills, if park it should be a Pallister Park and other content moved to Berwick Hills. The old maps on NLS only show Berwick Hills. A ward is named after the most known thing or things in that area or something to do with the town it’s in so it isn’t the most reliable for designating areas of a town. - @Chocolateediter: It seems like there's a settlement named "Pallister"[1] and a park named "Pallister Park" (click on the map) west of the settlement. As of 2011 there was a ward called "Pallister" but now the ward is "Berwick Hills & Pallister" which has similar boundaries but apparently not identical. Ward's probably satisfy WP:GEOLAND so this can probably be kept, jut like I'd probably keep Harrowgate Hill separate. That said ward boundaries and names change a lot so having articles on them may be difficult. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:15, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
({ping|Crouch, Swale}} It is a bit hard to judge
- Pallister a the northern surname for fence maker just like how the parks are Stewart and Ropner. Off topic, I wonder if locals say if locals say Pallister's park like me and my family say Stewart's park, I guess it is an anachronism to the time it was known to be from the Stewart family.
- Back on topic, Parkfield and Oxbridge Ward in Stockton is becoming Rooner Ward, proving the most known thing in a ward hypothesis.
- Brambles and Thorntree shows the tendency to snip the second word, since the area is Brambles Farm.
- Sometime between
1983-1997 (park opened in 1993 so the change before 1997 election) I think it split from Berwick Hills. In 2010 Berwick Hills reverse merged into Pallister Ward, it covered all of Berwick Hills. In 2015 it was renamed to the joint name, biggest difference in area in this change was north of the old Park End ward added.
- Linthorpe is two wards, park and Linthorpe, and Acklam, Acklam and Kader.
I am proposing to keep the article just take it in the direction of a park article, with some help moving it to the Pallister Park name. (Chocolateediter if it shows as not logged in) Chocolateediter (talk) 20:07, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Chocolateediter: Yes Pallister Park may not need a separate article and should probably be described in the Pallister and Pallister Park already redirects there. I was mainly pointing out that they aren't synonymous. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:24, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
@Crouch, Swale:I know they are not synonymous I was saying to spin off Pallister Park then merge Pallister content to Berwick Hills with the Pallister name redirecting to the disambiguation. This is if Pallister should be an article as is at the moment, with what I said I think the non-park content should be merged into Berwick Hills. If the park itself is not notable enough if Berwick Hills takes the Pallister ‘area’ then even that should be redirected into Berwick Hills with a section about it.
If Pallister as it is now is to stay as an article, a second question is if the area is more notable than the surname (and people with that surname) it is named after or not.
If not would it merge to Berwick Hills then be redirected to the disambiguation with this topic and history intact on Berwick Hills article.
Is they not a disambiguation for ‘Pallister’ with that spelling already since they are atleast two syndromes, an area in Australia and people with Pallister as a surname with articles. So even if this article stays, it may need to become Pallister, North Yorkshire.
Do more people need to comment on this, can you maybe add it to move discussions. It maybe complex involving, a Pallister Park article splintered off this one (if content is enough to be an article or follow the rest of the content), Pallister content merged and redirected to Berwick Hills then the redirect moved again to a created disambiguation. - @Chocolateediter: Yes I'd consider making "Pallister" a DAB per views[[2]] but I'd consider keeping the County Durham Pallister separate to Berwick Hills. Crouch, Swale (talk) 15:53, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
Pallister, North Yorkshire since Pallister is In Middlesbrough (it’s borough it to specific). Did you cut off a bit about Ropner a park I showed as example which is miles away. You sure because "Pallister" has no shops, not even one. Chocolateediter (talk) 16:30, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@Crouch, Swale: Chocolateediter (talk) 16:31, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes its in NY not Durham so would not use "County Durham", my mistake, I'm not sure what relevance Ropner Park, Stockton-on-Tees has? As you say its miles away. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:34, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@Crouch, Swale: I was making a point about wards being named after parks. I think Berwick Hills became Pallister then it was split using the old and new name when it was big enough to be an area with two wards like Linthorpe with park. The population of the two wards in 2015 must have been small enough to merge and since Pallister and Berwick Hills have been as ward names for so long it became a joint name, you would want to advertise a park in the area.
