Gaudí panot tiles

Created by Kingsif (talk). Self-nominated at 23:00, 27 May 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Panot; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page. General eligibility:Reply

  • New enough:
  • Long enough:
  • Other problems:   - There is a {{orphan}} tag on the page. While WP:DYKSG doesn't explicitly forbid articles with {{orphan}} tags from running at DYK, it's still a good idea to add a link to this article from another page.
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited:
  • Interesting:
  • Other problems:   - The hook is a little unclear at the moment. I assume that Gaudi "wanted a tile design so complex in the Casa Batlló hat the main panot tile manufacturers could not deliver on time", but the hook doesn't give that context. The hook is certainly interesting; it's just that the fact comes from out of left field, forcing readers to dig a bit deeper to understand this context.
QPQ: Done.

Overall:   @Kingsif: Nice work on this article. I had a small concern about the hook, and a recommendation that the article be linked from another page, but otherwise this is good to go. Epicgenius (talk) 18:06, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • @Epicgenius: Thanks for the review; I hear your concern but personally don't see how the hook is unclear - something was complex so it took longer than expected, is context necessary (or indeed relevant to the point)? Thanks for adding a link to the article; my intention is to incorporate more than mere mention at related articles on Barcelona culture and architecture, and specific streets and buildings - writing it all may take more time than adding [[ ]]! • Sorry for the confusion. I mean that you can just say "... that at one building, Antoni Gaudí wanted a tile design so complex". You don't have to mention the building directly, but currently it's unclear what Gaudi wanted a complex tile design for - the hook just says that he wants a tile design, but not that he wanted the design for a building. • @Epicgenius: Sorry, I thought I replied to this! With alt0a ... that Antoni Gaudí wanted a tile design (pictured) for one building that was so complex that the main panot tile manufacturers were so slow in production the tiles were only used in a later building? (this version also uses more, er, emphasis, but can be more like the original or however you'd tweak it) Kingsif (talk) 00:19, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • No problem Kingsif. I'd be fine with that. Though I'd add "and" after "so slow in production" so it isn't a run-on sentence, i.e. "... that Antoni Gaudí wanted a tile design (pictured) for one building that was so complex that the main panot tile manufacturers were so slow in production, and the tiles were only used in a later building?"
