Panzer Division or Panzergrenadierdivision?
editThe article is now titled Panzergrenadier Division Kurmark but was once titled Panzer Division Kurmark. Varying sources give different names for the division, Mitcham has it as Panzer Division, Stoves at Panzergrenadier Division. The division is listed in both Template:German Armoured Divisions of World War II and the Panzergrenadier section of Template:Infantry Divisions of the Wehrmacht. This is a bit confusing, was it a Panzer Division or Panzergrenadier Division? Calistemon (talk) 05:43, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- This source, which is RS, lists the division as Panzer. In Hitler and His Generals: Military Conferences 1942-1945. K.e.coffman (talk) 05:52, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think the late interception of the division, February 1945, probably adds to the confusion, as written records about the unit would have been limited. I checked a few other-language Wikipedias and they all have it as a Panzergrenadier Division. The fact that it had a Panzer Regiment rather than only a Panzer Abteilung makes me think it was at least intended to be a Panzer Division. Calistemon (talk) 06:07, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- You are probably right. In the end, it quite possibly does not matter what the article title is. "Panzer" being shorter, plus the mention in the book I happen to currently have on hand, would be my preference. However, I don't feel strongly either way. K.e.coffman (talk) 08:32, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- What swings it a little towards the current name is also the fact that neither the German Federal Archives nor CGSC seem to have an entry for the unit under Panzer Divisions. I don't think it is worth taking through requested moves to build consensus at this stage and if you did I don't think I would vote either way because I'm really not certain enough.
