Alternative meaning
editThe word "parataxonomy" is also used for the taxonomy of egg fossils and maybe other non-body fossils. That may well be a more common use than the term in this article; I may edit it when I have more time to research. Ucucha (talk) 07:13, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- I was about to make the same comment, but I see you have beaten me to it. I put a dubious tag next to the hatnote that claims parataxonomy is not to be confused with form classification. Evidence of "parataxonomy" being used to mean form classification: here. Ypna (talk) 03:58, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Parataxonomist subheading?
editI added some history of parataxonomy - i think this should be it's own section as there are important people to mention TanyaDapkey (talk) 12:57, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
Final Paragraph
editThis article has a final sentence stating "Today,[when?] the concepts of Citizen science and parataxonomy are somewhat overlapping, with unclear distinctions between those employed to provide supplemental services to taxonomists and those who do so voluntarily, whether for personal enrichment or the altruistic desire to make substantive scientific contributions.[citation needed] These terms are occasionally used interchangeably, but some taxonomists maintain that each possess unique differences.[citation needed)"
I am unclear where this sentence originated and I would disagree as the parataxonomy in Costa Rica is done by trained parataxonomists. Citizen Science usually requires little to no training, so how are they not distinct from each other? I would like to read the article/news report that says the terms are interchangeable - can someone share that here? TanyaDapkey (talk) 16:53, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
