The Monkees “Goin’ Down”.
editAccording to the band, their song, “Goin’ Down”, is based around “Parchman Farm”. ( See the Wikipedia entry for their song.).75.107.41.198 (talk) 20:43, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
- "Parchman Farm" is one of Allison's most popular tunes and has been recorded by (and probably inspired) dozens of musicians. The AllMusic song review for "Goin' Down"[1] doesn't note a similarity or inspiration and only mentions "An exercise in big-band swing", which is quite different than Allison's style. Other than the Monkees themselves, are there outside reliable sources that have made the connection? —Ojorojo (talk) 16:07, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- A handful of interviews appearing in books by Andrew Sandoval on The Monkees, and similar liner notes appearing on their re-issued albums, note it. “Goin’ Down”, wasn’t meant to be an exact cover of “Parchman Farm”, but, they claimed it was the “inspiration”. ( The inclusion in the article is neither here nor there, for me, I just noted it for what it was/is.) 75.106.32.81 (talk) 20:24, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
