ParnellParnell (disambiguation) – This enables us to treat Charles Stewart Parnell as the primary meaning, which he surely is. PatGallacher (talk) 21:03, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. No evidence shown to back the claim that one Parnell is more notable than all the others combined. For the record, I would think Chris or Bobby Parnell to be a more likely primary topic for the name. Calidum Talk To Me 21:48, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong oppose per Calidum, there being a governor of Alaska by this name, and several localities -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 06:41, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Please present a modicum of a case for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I browsed the first two pages of a Google Books search for "Parnell" and while the proposed meaning is common, it doesn't seem to be primary. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 12:02, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Charles Stewart Parnell is a major historical figure, described in his time as the uncrowned king of Ireland, his statue stands in a prominent place in Dublin, even now most Irish people and many British people will know of him. Internet searches aren't everything, but when I tried this on Yahoo 4 of the first 5 articles were related to him, the 5th was a collection of images including him. Opposition appears to be US-based systemic bias and recentism, treating some probably transient US figures as of comparable notability, see WP:BIAS and WP:RECENTISM. You can throw out all the anti-American crap you want against the wall, but it doesn't make your favored Parnell the primary topic for the name. Christ, I can't believe you're actually suggesting using a disambiguation page is proof of any sort of bias. Calidum Talk To Me 01:29, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
What does "figures as of comparable notability" mean? If they are of comparable notability, then clearly the standard of primary topic by way of commonness is not met. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 18:37, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
That's mangling what I said, I referred to "treating some probably transient US figures as of comparable notability", I clearly meant that they are not of comparable notability. For one thing, do any of these other Parnells have a song about them (and it has been recorded by other people) see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPTtrQ3HKeg PatGallacher (talk) 17:07, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I seem to have misread that sentence. In any case, at least three other Parnell biographies are listed for what appear to be reasonably notable historical figures, unconnected to recent US history, one of whom (the poet) features prominently in the top ten Google Books search results for "Parnell". To argue that the politician is the primary topic, one has to provide something more than assertions and an appeal to... song :) --Joy [shallot] (talk) 19:41, 18 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
