Names in bold?

edit

Why are some names in bold? Nurg (talk) 06:59, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Those are incumbent MPs. 203.211.77.216 (talk) 07:31, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - I've added that to the article. Nurg (talk) 08:05, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Start adding some other parties?

edit

Can we begin adding some parties that are known and outside of parliament, e.g. TOP has announced their party list. Shako18 (talk) 22:27, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

All parties that are registered with the Electoral Commission can submit a list. The moment they do, we can add that list. Schwede66 00:23, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Photos

edit

Don't be tempted to add individual photos to the party lists; those will be deleted again. We will only add (near) complete sets if the parties make those available to Wikipedia/Wiki Commons. Please see this page for the background to this arrangement. Schwede66 11:07, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Draft bios for likely incoming MPs

edit

I thought I'd leave a note here that during an election campaign, it's not the done thing to produce new bios for candidates who might enter parliament. It's often regarded a promotional activity, and many of those bios get deleted. If you want to put some energy into bios for budding politicians, the New Zealand politics taskforce has set up a process where you can channel your enthusiasm. We collaborate on writing bios in draft space and once it's clear who will enter parliament, we publish those who made it. Most of the time, we have all new MP bios published the morning after the election. Head over to Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand/politics/New MPs if you'd like to participate. NZ First list is out

edit

I haven't got time to add it, but it is on their website and reported on RNZ here https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/498125/election-2023-new-zealand-first-releases-party-list DrThneed (talk) 02:01, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also, do any of them need draft bios? That section is blank on the New MPs page. DrThneed (talk) 02:02, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you anonymous internet editor! (seeing as I can't thank you the traditional way) DrThneed (talk) 02:29, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Official list on vote.nz

edit

I am working through the official party and electorate lists to add everyone on Wikidata, and will note any mismatches I spot with this page here. E.g. there are 61 candidates on the ACT Party list so we are missing a few on this page. DrThneed (talk) 20:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for doing that. BTW, I noticed that with one of the previous runs, you didn't record the nationality in Wikidata. You can only run for office if you are a NZ citizen; might as well have P27 defined. Schwede66 20:44, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you mean the items I've created recently to link images, that was deliberate. There are occasionally people who drop off lists before the official one from vote.nz, as they didn't quite have their citizenship sorted, so I wanted to wait for this official list rather than a party version. Citizenship will get added once I've worked out who needs a new item and who doesn't. DrThneed (talk) 20:49, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh, good point. That is indeed a possible reason why someone drops out. Schwede66 20:55, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the original question ("incomplete lists"), I can explain what's going on. Parties form a ranked list and many of them publish that list before the list of candidates needs to be submitted to the Electoral Commission (it was due on 15 September). Those lists were added as they became available. In addition, there are many candidates who stand for parties in electorates who aren't on the list. However, the Electoral Commission then publishes a party list for each registered party, with a list ranking assigned to every candidate. It's a somewhat artificial detail added by the Electoral Commission. Schwede66 23:46, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I can tell where the difference is coming from. I'm having a lot of "fun" reconciling the electorate lists and the party lists to find people standing in one or the other or both (It would be so nice if they published a master list like that but so be it). I just thought it would be useful to point out inconsistencies when I see them (which can then be fixed or not depending on the reason). Interestingly I'm finding the occasional candidate standing in an electorate with a party affiliation but mentioned nowhere on the party website....make of that what you will! Say if you want a hand; I'm happy to go through some of the lists and help with updating so that what we have here matches what the Electoral Commission has published. Schwede66 00:18, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
