The Patriarchal State of Aquileia was a large state in Northern Italy for a period of a around four centuries that although run by the Patriarch was not something that was identical to the Patriarchate which existed before and after the state was in existence. – Primary usage. The patriarchate came first and outlasted the secular state ruled by its bishops. The other patriarchates are usually called by other names (Grado, Old Aquileia). Srnec (talk) 02:44, 19 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
