edit- personally I preferred the longer dab, or none at all. The two people have different names, after all.
_ _ (Thanks to them for restoring the word the, which i carelessly struck out.)
_ _ This raises two issues; WP:MoS (Dabs) is implicitly relevant to each (altho it deals explicitly only with Dab pages, and not ToP Dabs like this one):
- _ _ The longer dab
- This article is about Paul Daniel, the conductor. There is also an article about the magician Paul Daniels.
- contravenes the MoS's instruction, in its "Individual entries" section:
- Unlike a regular article page, don't wikilink any other words in the line, unless they may be essential to help the reader determine which page they are looking for; these pages aren't for exploration, but only to help the user navigate to a specific place
- (which is followed by two examples of adherance and one of disregard). Further, the language that i not only de-lk'd but also rm'd is clutter, rather than adhering to the fundamental principle stated as the first line of the cited section:
- Keep in mind that the primary purpose of the disambiguation page is to help people find the page they want quickly and easily. [emphasis added by J.]
- Dab'g language is justified solely by its navigational purpose (even where side benefits accrue); a Dab page or ToP Dab that tries to be a micro-article, by providing interesting side information, or lks to it, is letting clutter interfere with that purpose. In this case, users who may want Paul Daniels don't need the name at the top of the page repeated, or guidance to an article on conductors or magicians; those are article functions provided by the respective bios, not only more efficiently, but more importantly, with less impediment to navigation.
- _ _ The reasoning given for "none at all":
- The two people have different names, after all
- is also addressed implicitly by the MoS's section named
- The "See also" section
- whose full text is
- There may be a "see also" section for similar terms which may be confused, misspellings, and the like, but don't use "see also" for any legitimate use of the main title word
- IMO, a ToP Dab justified solely by the expectation of user errors is fully as appropriate as an entry in a Dab-page "See also" section.
- However, i note the possibility of a more specific arguement against this ToP Dab: Daniels is a much more common surname that Daniel, so the likelihood of recalling that familiar one after hearing the rare one is much greater than the likelihood of the reverse. IMO that means a ToP Dab to Paul Daniel from the Paul Daniels article has a much stronger justification than this one. While i remain unswayed in saying the long ToP Dab had to go, and the short one was a reasonable replacement for it, i had no intention of making the call between my short Dab and none, nor do i see a need for my involvement in that further decision.

It (in most cases) contains a full listing of in-print CDs released on the SonyBMG labels within the US (for the moment), along with track listings and in some cases audio clips (which will become more robust in the new year). Ecommerce links are provided inobtrusively.
