Cause of death

Lyndsey or Lindsey?

The World Snooker website and the Times obituary lists her name spelled as "Lindsey", but the Guardian obituary uses "Lyndsey" Seedybob2 09:58, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Paul - a smoker ?

I read in a newspaper that Hunter was a NON-smoker, but these articles tend to suggest otherwise. I will leave these references in case anyone else queries it.

Is it even relevant to the article? This form of cancer has no link to smoking but it has been slipped in in a judgemental way. WalterMitty 17:51, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

There are some links between testicular cancer and smoking.

I don't usually get involved with these things, but this is clearly inappropriate: "Hunter, a smoker, had been receiving chemotherapy for his illness and had been struggling to find form since beginning treatment". If you think smoking is interesting enough to bother mentioning (btw, it isn't) then it should go elsewhere. To link it to the illness in this way is distasteful. I've just read this article for the first time and found the smoker reference to be totally inappropriate. There is no link between neuroendocrine cancer and smoking, and as WalterMitty said, its inclusion is highly judgemental. The Telegraph should know better too. I'm removing this reference and really someone should rewrite this article as a lot of it has been lifted verbatim from the Telegraph obituary. --DrFod 15:17, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Who cares how Paul died? I doubt his wife thinks much of your debate over stupid details. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Show some damn respect. You have behaved despicably, Millm0w. First of all Wiki should try and present the facts as accurately as possible regardless of the circumstances, however sad they may be, and that is all the contributors have tried to do - as pointed out by the person you called 'sick'. The best way to honour Paul on this site is to make sure his entry isn't riddled with factual inaccuracies. Phil Yates

Deleted source

Someone deleted this source from the article, because the article text changed such that the source was not relevant right there any longer. The obit is actually quite a rich little piece in its own right and can be used to source probably 20-50 facts in this article! Does it really have to be this detailed? Reaching the last 16 when you're a top 16 player only involves winning one match, against a non-top16 player. In the Masters, not even that if you're in the top 14. Maybe limit it to semi-finals or later, plus his early breakthrough runs? --MartinUK (talk) 23:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Writing style

Something about the writing style on this seems a bit newspaper article-esque. There's also possibly the slightest POV - but I'm not really sure whether it constitutes removal - with the section heading "the great sportsman". I think it's phrases like "it was time for the Yorkshireman to perform on the biggest stage of all, and that he most certainly did" that are giving it the newspaper, rather than encyclopedia, vibe.
