the 3AM thing
editThe article talks about 3AM - " On a restless night awaiting his biopsy results Paulie awoke at 3 a.m. and went to the Bada Bing! club. Just inside he had a striking vision of the Virgin Mary hovering above the stage."
I seem to recall back in season 2(?) that after Christopher gets shot and is in hospital, after a near death experience, he tells Paulie something about his time will come at 3AM and this really wound Paulie up at the time and we went to see a psycic.
Christopher's 'dream' is due to the fact that the Russian guy that Christopher and Paulie cut up in the back of Satriale's was cut up at 3 AM. --62.167.49.24 22:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Christopher and Paulie never cut up any Russian guy in the back of Satriale's. They lost him in the Pine Barrens after their collection went wrong. When Christopher warns Paulie about 3AM, Paulie obsesses over it for the rest of the episode "From Where to Eternity."--15 May 2008, The Nasty
Girlfriend
editIsn't paulie's girlfriend Michelle played by Judy Reyes, who we only see in "From Where to Eternity" (episode 2.9). I'll go back and check. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:55, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm right. It's about 20 minutes into that episode (I'm watching a recording, with ads, off the TV, so your timing may vary). She wears a glittery green T-shirt. I'll change the article accordingly. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 23:21, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Russian Mob Thing
editCan someone organize this article? There's nothing to indicate when general description ends and long-winded explanation of the russian mob episode begins. That part alone should at least be broken into paragraphs.
Section 8?
editDuring the "Pine Barrens" episode, I seem to recall Paulie telling Christopher that he spent 4 years in the Army Signal Corps. This would seem to indicate that he completed his full term in the service. Comments?
When is it stated that Paulie left the Army on a Section 8? Also, is there any reference to the origins of the "Walnuts" nickname? I never heard a charaecter actually call him this until Episode 207, "D-Girl," when Christopher tells Amy she lies better than Paulie Walnuts.
The section 8 comment comes from Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti. Chris and Paulie talk about character arcs. Paulie describes his own personal arc, which includes "spent some time in the army, got section 8".RudyLucius 03:09, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Paulie as Underboss?
editIs there any 'in-show' evidence that Paulie has been promoted or is this an assumption based on Christopher's claims that he is a capo? I ask because when Tony was in hospital, Silvio took over as acting-boss, not Paulie, who would seem the more logical choice considering his alleged position.
I'm pretty sure there is no evidence at all of Paulie being underboss. Also, Underboss is a lifelong position. The only way to lose that title is to become boss or to be knocked off. So, if Tony wants to make Christopher his underboss he wouldn't name Paulie otherwise he would have to kill Paulie just to get Christopher the spot. Not to mention, is Paulie the person Tony would want running the show after he's gone? not so paulie is in his 6o's thus when chis will be ready to be underboss paulie will either be dead or retired.
There isnt any evidence at all. I was just looking at that, he isnt listed in that position even on the HBO Sopranos site.
I'm pretty sure Tony is actually underboss, he is technically "Acting Boss" even though he has always really held power.
Listed as underboss in DiMeo family structure here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DiMeo_Crime_Family and considering that Moltisanti is the Capo now. Paulie didn't become the acting boss after the shooting of Tony because Silvio was a close friend and actually acted to take the reigns with no objections. Tony was never an underboss. When they set up Junior as a lightning rod, Junior put Beppy Sasso as his underboss. Externally, people know Junior to be the boss of the Soprano Crime Family and Tony as the acting boss but internally, everybody knows Tony runs and has ran everything.
- Tony did tell Paulie that Chris, Pussy, and the newly-imported Furio would all be reporting to him (Paulie). Sorry, don't remember the name of the episode, but I think it was the first episode of season 2. Not sure if that means Paulie is a capo now, since Tony didn't use the title specifically when talking to Paulie.24.21.139.41 15:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, here we go. The title of that episode is "Guy Walks into a Psychiatrist's Office."24.21.139.41 15:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
No, Paulie is not the Underboss. There is no reference of any kind outside of fan speculation that Paulie is considered the Underboss of the family. Tony is still an Underboss in Name. In other words, the Underboss is actually the Boss -- Tony Soprano. Junior is still recognized as the head of the family.
Actually he is, if you check his HBO profile and choose Tony Soprano, whre it says relationships it states that Paulie is indeed the Underboss.
The HBO site is NOT authoritative. In fact it's riddled with errors. UPDATE: I just checked the profile on the HBO site and it says no such thing. It says he's a capo. And it's perfectly clear he's not the underboss anyway, as Silvio took over when Tony was shot.
After watching this last episode, 6-15, it's quite obvious to me that Paulie Walnuts is going to get wacked some moment in the future, specially at May 13 were the resume says "paulie is upstaged". Tony seems to be getting totally afronted with Paullie and We now where this is heading because we all saw what happened to Ralphie, we all so what happens to who gets into Tony's grudge. And it was showned that Tony is very grudgy over Paulie, to the amount of thinking twice in wack him at the boat. So I am introducing this note that You can remove after May 13: Paulie Gualtieri is set for being wacked. If this is not confirmated everybody is free to delete this entry ; )))))))))
It is now clear that Pauli was never underboss (as if that weren't clear already). Furthermore that he was in retirement even as a capo until the final episode.75.178.73.24 02:16, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
It's only logical that Paulie was Underboss when Chris was promoted, even as Capo Chris complained about Paulie throwing his wieght or authority around on that episode that TJ Dolan was killed. I admit it's not as explicit as it should be but it's only logical.
Ofcourse I will not argue that Paulie isn't a lame duck. Just on the merit of his senority and Tony's wishes to promote Chris to a Capo position did Paulie make Underboss, and although not popular and traditional,Tony could have made the Executive Decision to make Chris Boss and leaving the rest of the Administration intact as he was probally going to do with Bobby, remember "Sil is no spring chicken" and neither is Paulie. Save his flirting with Johnny Sac, Paulie is a true "company man" to go from Capo to Underboss and back to Capo. But Tony doesn't think no one else is as capable to supervise the most profitible crew in the family right now.
Ever since Junior got too senile to the point it could not be hidden any more, Tony became Boss and retired Junior all together to 'Capo di Capi Re', which put the Acting out of Tony's title and gave room for a Underboss.
Some Families in real life are different, where a Underboss has alot of power or very little but with all the perks and priviliges, Paulie was new to the administration whereas Tony and Silvio been in the driver seat for a long time. So with Tony in the coma,it was natural for Sil to step in as Acting Boss temporarily, an exeptional quirk of political succession in a organization.
Two things, first the dumbest thing I've read on this is that Underboss is appointed for life and the only way to lose the title is to be killed or made boss. We're not talking about the Supreme Court here. What the Boss says is what goes. If the Boss demotes the Underboss then he's demoted. Frankie Locs was Gambino Underboss then later made Consigliere. Second, when was it ever said that Paulie had retired? Christopher was given his own crew. Paulie was still a capo of his own crew of which Patsy was the most prominently shown soldier. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.0.211.76 (talk) 07:09, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Deleting without any justification
editMy entry about Paullie wacking was deleted without any comment. Let's not start a fight, this isn't the Mafia ; )
Who the hell reverted it back to the very FINE typo filled edit that someone did?
Yea and Paulie was an Underboss and we can re-edit all day every day!!!! Cuz it should be there.
Not out of gratitude, out of fear
editI did not interpret the espresso machine gift as an act of gratitude, but an act of fear, upon realizing that his future was in danger. I believe the episode closes with him intensely lifting weights to toughen up, realizing that he was weakening in the eyes of Tony. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.33.219.252 (talk) 02:10, 7 May 2007 (UTC).
Paulie's father
editThere was an episode where Paulie told Tony that if he found out it was Ralph him who impersonated a cop and told his mom he gave oral sex to a cub scout, that "On his old man's grave" he would kill him, but in the episode where we find out his aunt is really his mother she tells him that she met a man in world war 2 that was Paulie's father. Did the woman he thought was his mother have a husband who died? The snare 06:39, 3 June 2007 (UTC) In the Episode 'Eloise', Carmine Lupertazzi says to Paulie: "your father was run over by a trolley, right?"
Name: Peter Paul, nod to Goodfellas
editPaulie's first names Peter Paul seem to be a witty nod to 'Goodfellas'. In one scene (is it at the wedding of Henry?) the camera moves around the room and in voice-over Henry talks about how almost everybody is named either Peter or Paul. --62.167.49.24 22:37, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Although it still could be a nod to Goodfellas, it's not necessarily so. The basis of the humor in Goodfellas is rooted in the fact that Peter and Paul are extremely common names among Catholics, especially back in the day. Paulie Walnuts is also Catholic, so there you go. wikipediatrix 22:42, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Mistaken identification in section on Season 3 about Valery the Russian's military experience
editAs currently written, the article states in the summation of the Season Three episode "Pine Barrens" that Valery was "a former commando in the Chechen military." However, we cleary overhear Tony state that Valery was a commando who KILLED a number of Chechens. This re-inforced by Paulie's misunderstanding that Valery had killed "Czechoslovakians." Tony's statement, as well as the fact that Valery speaks Russian to himself, clearly imply that Valery was a commando in the Russian Army, NOT the Chechen Army or its guerilla faction.
This is a minor error, but at the same time a glaring one. Propose to change the wording to something along the lines of "a former commando in the Chechen wars," and will do so in a few days if no one objects. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.147.72.15 (talk) 18:23, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Fiercly loyal
edit"He is violent, impulsive, and paranoid, but he is also fiercely loyal to Tony, making him a valued member of the organization."
Honestly, I'm not one to scream "citation needed" for every little thing, but unless I've watched some weird european cut of the Sopranos, I cannot see how anyone could come to the conclusion that Paul is fiercely loyal to Tony. Like every other episode he makes some remarks that undermine Tony authority. While digging around youtube to find some "evidence" I've found this compilation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdtFKsXhCUc. Obviously this isnt some major flaw in the article, but you know...calling Paul fiercly loyal just seems wrong --TheJohnW (talk) 21:07, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- You're entirely correct. I've replaced 'fierce' with 'ultimately'. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 21:30, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero Murder
editThis section says they killed Bonpensiero on Tony's boat. It wasn't Tony's boat the Stugots, it was a boat Tony said he was interested in buying. 67.60.231.114 (talk) 06:54, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
