Citation Problem (Ferla 2013)
editThis page displayed a citation error for the Ferla (2013)PLoS reference (as at 13 Dec 2017). The problem was caused by a reference to the same source, with the same reference tag (Ferla13), being included in the embedded template "Rickettsialesphylogeny" (with minor text differences in the reference text). The problem is duplication of the "Ferla13" reference detailed definition. If the reference is detailed in the article, it should ideally be removed from the template ... but the template may be used in other pages without the supporting ref. If the reference is removed from the article, the in-text references in the article become dependent on the template, which could be removed / modified by some future edit. I have "bodged" this by creating a new reference label (Ferla2013) for use in the article text, leaving "Ferla13" in the template. The result is that there is no longer an error displayed, but the reference is duplicated (give or take the minor text differences) in the "references" list. If anyone can think of a better solution, go ahead! This looks like a general problem with including references in a template (which may clash with the reference environment of particular template instantiations).FredV (talk) 09:22, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
