Liberal ?
editWas there an actual "Liberal Party" in Penryn/Falmouth in 1840? The meetings of electors with liberal views, described by Barclay Fox in his journal, seem to be rather ad hoc affairs, although the candidate they selected was described as "liberal". Edward John Hutchins, the MP elected was clearly not an old-style Whig.
The WP article on History of the Liberal Party (UK) says: "The formal foundation of the Liberal party is traditionally traced to 1859 and the formation of Palmerston's second government". Perhaps an entry in the stub section Election results would be useful. Vernon White . . . Talk 20:28, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
