Specific epithet
editThe reference to a finger shape is indirect. The species was originally described as Pentstemon (sic) Digitalis and the specific epithet--the capitalization indicating it is a noun, not an adjective--is a direct reference to the genus Digitalis. In fact the article title is "Pentstemon Digitalis. Fox-Glove-Like Pentstemon": https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/487579#page/180/mode/1up — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.129.117.130 (talk) 22:48, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
