This article was posted on September 30, 2010, on an active area of materials science. Since the author is a mere mathematician, the section on chemistry is a bit weak; note in particular that there are at least four citations needed in the last two paragraphs. In addition, being new, it is a rapidly changing field, and this article will be obsolete quickly if not maintained. Since this is an interdisciplinary subject, the wider the range of contributing authors, the better.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT POINT. This field is not only new, but is adjacent to a number of areas, some of which neither I nor my collaborators may be aware of. For this reason, this article should be regarded as particularly tentative and in need of attention from as wide a variety of authors as possible. Please feel free to edit, adjust, modify, and especially add to this article as appropriate.
