Reverting of article merge

edit

In September 2015, the article Polygonum caespitosum was converted to a redirect to Persicaria longiseta, and content from Polygonum caespitosum was merged into Persicaria longiseta. This was a mistake: some botanists have regarded the "longisetum" plant as a variety of the "caespitosum" one, under various names, such as "Persicaria caespitosa var. longiseta (Bruijn) C.F. Reed", "Polygonum caespitosum var. longisetum (Bruijn) Danser", "Polygonum cespitosum var. longisetum (Bruijn) Steward", "Persicaria cespitosum var. longisetum (Bruijn) A.N. Steward", etc, but the accepted view appears that they are two different species. (See, for example, http://www.tropicos.org/Name/100387609 and http://www.invasive.org/browse/subinfo.cfm?sub=6213) If they are two species then they should have two articles, if they are varieties of one species then one could argue either for two articles or for one article under the name of the species, i.e. "Polygonum caespitosum", but in neither case is it justifiable to have just one article under the title "Persicaria longiseta". It seems to me that the generally accepted view is that they are two different species, so I have restored both articles to the state they were in before the merging and redirecting.
