The footage of Peter Carey's interview on Prabowo's ancestry was taken without leave from a separate interview on the Java War. It was thus not done as a piece of political propaganda, but as an historical reflection on the impact of the Java War on Indonesian society. During the course of that interview the character and fate of two of Prabowo's distant relatives who fought in the war was explained and their integrity and decisiveness praised. At no point in the original interview was any question asked about Prabowo whom Peter Carey has never met.
