He is the musical kit drummers choice.

I have added commentary on his personal style as it diverges from old-school mainstream jazz drummers. I personally feel them to be important. Erskine may be a genius that has brought jazz-drumming to the era of modern metronomical timekeeping, or he can be a divergent jazz drummer "not a jazz drummer, really". I have run into both descriptions of him from colleague drummers. I personally feel that his vast recording history proves how preferable his style is by many modern jazz musicians and composers, having rarely seen his critizisers used as widely as musicians, but leave this discussion of Erskine's jazz-styles influentiality for the future generations to decide. If it lives on, he is right to modernize timekeeping styles of jazz.

The above and the article is a very personal opinion that should not be construed as qualified critique of Peter Erskine's style or capability. Peter Erskine has the ability to adapt and vary his style depending on the arrangement, musicians and particulars of the recording session or concert. To the trained ear his sound is utterly particular, impressive and creates a powerful drive for the rest of the orchestra or group. Two very good extreme examples of Erskine's capability and range are Maynard Ferguson's Airegin, where he displays his incredible domain of the drums, understanding of the arrangement and the orchestra's capability . At the other extreme end of the spectrum is Chris Botti's The Place Between Us. Here Erskine plays pure accompaniment, yet his playing is vivid, powerful and a driving factor to the rest of the group. I have followed Erskine's career for years and as the paragraph above by n.n. indicates, the list of artists that Erskine has played with is spectacular and attests to his demand as a drummer. He can transcend all styles, whether playing big band jazz or contemporary group jazz. If one likes Erskine, consider listening to Billy Kilson. His style, drive and power are very similar to Erskine's. Henry Danforth.

I am going to assume that whoever wrote the above passage is the same person who added all the Peacock terms to this article. This is an encylopedia, not a place to refer people to new drummers if you like this one. Good grief! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 07:14, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

While the article is mostly informative its definitely too gushy. (And this is coming from a huge fan.) Needs a few revisions to tone it down. (removing certain modifiers, etc.) Airproofing (talk) 01:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I removed some little bit of the POV stuff, but the whole article exudes the words, "FAN" all over it. Needs cleanup, not to mention references. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 07:14, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Place references here-- they don't belong in External links. I have moved them here where they belong, but didn't check them over to see if they are reliable references. Once you are sure that a reference is inappropriate, or has been used to it's full capacity, just cross them off like this. Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 02:46, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

edit

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:37, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
