editThis is an article about a Frisian historian from medieval times. I am going to expand it further in the future. -The Bold Guy- 14:18, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

edit'Angela from the Blue' writes "Despite his being a monk, he reportedly had a relationship with a milk maiden at a local farm. She bore him a bastard son in 1489". Angela from the Blue you certainly like making unsubstantiated claims and they all seem to have a similar theme. If this is true and I am not saying it is not but please quote a source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.68.173.125 (talk) 09:08, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- User:Angela from the Blue has since been indefinitely blocked as a sockpuppet. I've removed the unsourced statement. --Geniac (talk) 14:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Who requested a photograph? Do you realise that he died before the camera was invented? But perhaps there is some artwork around. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

"Real name"?
editIn my understanding, in that time (as generally up until fairly recent times), personal names were regularly "translated" from one language to another. The first name given seems to be the Latin name form; to consider it less "real" is rather anachronistic. (In fact, Latin seems often to have been considered as "the norm", and thus the Latin forms, if any, were "the real forms", in Western Europe, until partially supplanted by French in the 17'th century.) I think it is better to label the forms by language:
- Petrus Jacobi Thaborita (Latinised name form of Peter Jacobusz van Bolsward)
without discussing the "reality" of this or that form.
Also, note that translating names is not a completely extinct habit... The Dutch sister article claims the same name form to be "the real name", as does this English (right now); however, in the Frisian sister, the Dutch spelling was changed to another "real name"; it states:
- (werklike namme: Peter Jacobusz fan Boalsert).
A further reason for avoiding naming one form "the real one", I think. JoergenB (talk) 13:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- He is also named Petrus Jacobus van Bolsward in one (1) web location: http://www.tresoar.nl/vanderaa/index.php?sub=Bolsward. JoergenB (talk) 18:31, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- No-one has protested, whence I've implemented the change. JoergenB (talk) 21:20, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

It is a truly magnicantly written article which needs some refernces but nonetheless is fairly well readable. Besides that only the style can be improved, aswell as it's length. -The Bold Guy- (talk) 16:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC) |
