Dungeons

"Unique amongst all games of the time was the faux 3-D graphics of Phantasy Star's Dungeons, a widely praised technological feat." Praised by who? And also, I distinctly remember a graphical system like this being used in Dungeon Master for the PC in 1987, as well as a more basic version in The Bard's Tale for the NES in 1985. Characters

Made a new section outlining the characters in Phantasy Star. Hope this make it a bit better, hope to add some pictures when I figure out how to do it. I didn't know if the spoiler warning was really necessary, but Dark Force isn't even known about until the end of the game, so I figured better safe than sorry. Algol planetary system

I wrote a longer, more informative article about the Algol planetary system and made that the main article for the Fictional universe section. It still seems incomplete, though, so I would very much appreciate improvements (my work could always use a few). ;-) Celzrro 16:13, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

Renaming this article

In an effort to standardize videogame articles, I propose moving information regarding the series as a whole to a new article entitled Phantasy Star (series), while leaving information specific to the first Phantasy Star game in this article. This would improve clarity in the article and help separate information on two very different things. Let me know what you all think about this. Release Price

I hear all of the Phantasy Star games were extremely expensive when they came out. Like 80 US dollars or something. Does anyone have a reliable source saying that it cost that?

Someone just changed what I believe originally stated "In the United States, Phantasy Star sold for $70.00. This made it the most expensive video game being sold at the time." to "In the United States, Phantasy Star sold for $1.00 This made it the least expensive video game being sold at the time." I'm not exactly sure if it did say $70 but obviously the $1 is false.

40hrs length in article

Rarity of Mega Drive version

Myau? A he?

As fas as I know, Myau is female. Either that or the many PS sites I visited (and even my PS cartridge) are lying to me.

Then you probably have a lying cartridge indeed. It says "When Myau eats the nut of Laerma, he ...". And in fact all sites I know lists Myau as a male.--Fogeltje 11:01, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm fairly certain the original Japanese doesn't even mention Myau's gender. And as for using in-game dialogue as a argument, don't forget the game confuses Noah's gender, so that's not a real concrete source. Krendall (talk) 15:41, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Excessive copyrighted images?

Pokemon Rip Off?

Any word on how much the Pokemon series ripped off the gameplay and graphics from this game? Anyone agree with me on this point, I like Pokemon, I just think it is based on Phantasy Star —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.11.93.135 (talk) 10:09, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Pokémon was only ripping off of this as much as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, for example. Most early RPGs like Pokémon, Phantasy Star, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest weren't really that different. Tezero (talk) 18:25, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Boss

Dark Falz and Dark Force are two different translations of the same boss title (or name) "Dark Phallus". Dark Phallus is the official Romanization for these kinds of bosses as we can see in the official artwork (see also the PS Collection Romanization) and even in "Phantasy Star: At the end of the Millenium" where, for instance, PS1 DF real name is shown to be "Pro Phallus". So I think instead of having “Dark Force (Dark Falz) we should have “Dark Phallus (Dark Falz)” or “Dark Falz (Dark Phallus)” in that topic title. 217.129.240.153 (talk) 18:03, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

The "Dark Phallus" romanization was deleted but the truth is that

• PSIV uses the "Phallus" term for Dark Falz: http://www.pscave.com/ps4/enemies/prophallus.shtml (yes, they are the same (this image can only seen by "saving as...": http://www.psalgo.com/bb/images/avatars/gallery/Phantasy%20Star%20IV/elsy_006.png)

• SEGA's official Romanization also uses that term: http://www.sabrecat.net/restoration/psc/ps4/ps4-57.jpg

By the way: "Dark False" would be a much better romanization than "Dark Force" or "Dark Falz", because that was their intention.

Alis name

The player starts out as Alis Landale (or Alisa Landeel in Japan)

アリサ (Arisa) was officially Romanized as Alicer (see: http://www.sabrecat.net/restoration/psc/ps1/ps1-6.jpg). However the latest official Romanization, shown by a presentation of the proto version of PS1 remake, says it is Arisa (see: http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/psg1/ss-010.jpg). Major revisions 8/7/08

Much like I've done with Phantasy Star II and Phantasy Star III, I've gone through and made a number of changes, all to improve the quality of the article - both in terms of writing and organization. Below is a list of the changes I've made.

• Attempted to remove spoilers (just couldn't leave Dark Force out, though)
• Completely rewrote the story section
• Added a gameplay section
• Consolidated "Remake", "Technical Details", and other miscellany under a new category: Development and Release Details as seen in other Phantasy Star articles; this could use some additional development notes if anyone knows where to find that information
• Cleaned up the starting paragraph and moved some of the information into the Development and Release details, so as not to bog down the article from the start.
• Added a Reception section
• Fixed citations to match Wikipedia formatting
• Touched up the character information
• Additional minor changes for article consistency

It is generally good practice not to include spoilers, if that is the deleted information you are referring to. In any case, if there is information that you think needs to be replaced, by all means be specific in explaining which information, and your case for why it needs to remain, rather than simply citing one guideline or another.
