Graphics with different synthetic strategies for producing phenylacetone have been deposited with the Wiki Commons: [1]. I am not a native English speaker, so I leave it to you to revise this article.

Also used in the production of a specialized methamphetamine.

What's 'specialised methampethamine'? The methampethamine analogue using MDP2P is MDMA, which is stated in the sentence immediately prior to the one above. As MDA is the amphetamine analogue from MDP2P. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.105.209 (talk) 18:20, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alkylation/acylation

edit

The reaction of benzene with chloroacetone (an alkyl chloride) is an alkylation reaction. For comparison, an analogous acylation reaction would be the reaction of benzene with acetyl chloride to give acetophenone. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:39, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I know. I corrected this myself about 30 seconds after I made the edit. For some reason, Wikipedia decided not to make the edit I requested, so thanks for making the correction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.242.135.188 (talk) 16:23, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sometimes when two people are editing the same article at the same time, these things happen. Cheers, -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:31, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
The carbonyl in chloroacetone will dominate, this will result in an acylation reaction, rather than an alkylation reaction. Assuming by reaction of benzene you are alluding to a Friedel-Crafts? 118.210.200.178 (talk) 08:54, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Totally got mixed up, my bad, under certain conditions this reaction could theoretically proceed as an Friedel-Crafts acylation but under most practical conditions will proceed as a Friedel-Crafts alkylation. 118.210.200.178 (talk) 09:18, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I plan to improve this article by adding an image of the synthetic pathway for the synthesis of phenylacetone. Currently, the synthesis pathway only uses the chemical names to indicate the reactants and products. By showing the synthetic pathway using chemical molecules, it will make it easier for readers to understand the synthesis pathway. I also plan on adding a citation under the “In popular culture” section. Currently, this section only mentions that Walter White used enantiomeric variation in Breaking Bad, but it does not mention which episode mentions this. I do see a typo in the synthesis part of the article.

@Jiewlord: Please don't keep it to yourself. Wikipedia is the encyclopedia anyone can edit, so if you see a mistake, feel free to fix it. Or, if you can't, state specifically what it is so someone can help you. DMacks (talk) 21:51, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
