International vs. General

edit

WP Fraternities and Sororities has defined Scope as either local, regional, national, or international. A group is international if it has active chapters in more than one country. A national group has chapters in just one country. A local group only has one chapter, and a regional group has two or three chapters clustered in a geographic area. Stating that a group is international is factual in this instance, not puffery. Please contact Wikipedia:WikiProject Fraternities and Sororities for more information or questions. Actions at a chapter do not equate to actions of the organization

edit

I have removed the following text from the article:

The society has experienced embezzlement.[1] Robin Lowe, a former advisor for the PTK chapter at Itawamba Community College, was charged with embezzlement in February 2024.[2][3][4] Lowe is accused of converting public funds meant to benefit the PTK chapter for her own personal use. Lowe was the chapter advisor for Phi Theta Kappa for fifteen years, from 2008 to May of 2023. [5] [6][7][8][9][10]

Nothing in that text indicates that the actions extended beyond the local chapter, nor that there was any action (or overt inaction) by the national offices that led to the incident, so I do not see where it should be mentioned in this article. —C.Fred (talk) 11:37, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Member and chapter misconduct is a stardard section for articles that fall under WikiProject:Fraternities and Sororities. Misconduct does not have to be national to be included (in fact, it rarely is national), but does require independent sources. Some incidents do not rise to the level of being notable enough to be included. Because this incident has coverage, resulted in criminal charges, and happened this year, it does seem to be worthy of inclusion for now. Rublamb (talk) 13:16, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

There is no citation to the following sentence in the first paragraph of "Controversies, local chapter or member misconduct" section. It needs to be removed because it does not accurately represent the ongoing court action.

"Honor Society sued PTK, claiming it misrepresents its membership criteria and potentially deceiving students into joining under false pretenses, by falsely asserting that it is limited to the top ten percent of students." Barbeach23 (talk) 19:20, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
