Source quality and information about Uipi

edit

Hi -- Phil Uipi's page has been around for some time and I have just expanded it a bit. There is more information about him that I feel is significant, but which does not appear in sources that meet guidelines for quality. Specifically, in 2019, Uipi was sworn into the Supreme Court Bar. While some open web discussions about the Supreme Court Bar debate its importance, one must be a member to argue before the Court, and -- as with being the first Tongan elected official in Utah (and, I think, the only one in any state, even 30 years later), as well as the first Tongan lawyer and first Tongan real estate agent in Utah -- he is the first Tongan admitted to the Supreme Court Bar. I believe that Uipi's wide range of firsts add up to making him notable.

The problem lies in the fact that the only sources that mention his induction/membership of that Bar are social network posts, such as one from his great nephew. Clearly, the Instagram and Facebook posts that announce this news do not meet Wikipedia standards for sourcing.

Am I better off leaving this information out (as I have so far) or introducing a bit of information from "unacceptable" sources when past editors and I have been very careful with sourcing so far? Oughtta Be Otters (talk) 19:00, 10 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Any thoughts @Will (Wiki Ed):? Trying out my skills and also trying to do right...
Same question with regard to the press release I used: "U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Appoints Utah State Advisory Committee Members". PR Newswire. June 13, 2014. Retrieved June 23, 2020. It is the only source that names him as being a part of this commission. As it is not a press release from him or inspired by him, I thought it might be okay to use in this instance? Uipi continues to be active in politics and related work in Utah, but it is very hard to document, though I think this also points to elements of his notability. Phil Uipi's name

edit

I'm curious about Uipi's personal name and also the title of the article. He goes by "Phil Uipi" as a public name (e.g., when running for State Senate) but appears to have the actual name personal "Filia." Right now, the title of the page is "Phil Uipi," but I have changed the first sentence to refer to him as "Filia (Phil) Uipi." How should this be handled? Attempt to attend conference in Tonga

edit

Thank you, UipiB‎ (talk), for suggesting the addition of information about the democracy conference. I was trying to decide whether to add that piece of history.

Also, curious if you are aware of sources regarding admission to the US Supreme Court Bar?

Thank you for the offer. More about what, please? The Supreme Court Bar or something else? Oughtta Be Otters (talk) 22:42, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
