Website
editShould his website in the right box really be Patreon? Youtube is where his content is hosted. Patreon is just a place where people can pay him for his work (and to create more content). He even lists his youtube channel as his website on Twitter. It looks like he has another website, "phillyd.tv", but it hasn't been updated since 2016. --24.207.232.113 (talk) 11:43, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
SourceFed
editIs it worth talking about his company's newest endeavor SourceFed considering it's rapidly growing subscriber base? SmufforzThe cake is a lie. 21:29, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, for sure. SourceFed has been in the works for months, and it is going to become very big, if the signs so far are any indication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.58.20.245 (talk) 19:46, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I added the SourceFed section a couple months ago... but I was wondering if we should split SourceFed into its own articles. It has reliable refs and it probably has enough to warrant its own article. I'm on the fence about this one so lets conduct a vote. Soulboost (talk) 04:42, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Image on the right
editThe only image in this article is extremely small (200x118), Jpeg format (lossy compression) and Philip's face only makes up about 4% of the image. (Seriously.) The source image is more than 4000x2500 pixels, why can't we have a normal image of Philip's face in this article. Like, you know, where you can actually see him? --82.170.113.123 (talk) 02:04, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Someone changed the image a while back, so this problem is solved. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 11:38, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Real last name
editToday, 8/28/12 the official Philip DeFranco page on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/DeFrancoNation/posts/10151105515124407) stated that his real name is Philip Franchini. I see that this page has been updated. When there's a definitive source on the public internet, it should be referenced to. --Mblumber (talk) 14:36, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
I JoeTemp;concur with Mblumber, The article originally stated that Philip DeFranco's Actual Legal last name was Franchina, However the source used for this edit was inaccurate because the source in question (The Baltimore Sun) itself was incorrect, it was also out of date considering the fact that the article was published in 2007, while the Citation refering to Philip DeFranco himself posting on his Facebook page (confirming that his Legal last name is in fact Franchini) is far more recent, having been published in the month of August 2012. JoeTemp (talk)
- Why is the Baltimore Sun source is incorrect? Date doesn't matter, there's no evidence the subject has changed their name. WP:SELFPUB facebook posts do not take precedence over the Baltimore Sun article. We don't know which is correct, so both must remain until another reliable source is found.--Alizaa2 (talk) 15:45, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Also read Wikipedia:Conflicting sources.--Alizaa2 (talk) 15:48, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
It does not matter to me anymore, This conflict is over since a compromise was reached, As long as the article has Franchini listed before Franchina, I am happy with it. Joe Temp (talk) 18:07, 3 December 2012 (UTC)JoeTemp

Claims of cancellation
editJust establishing the facts on how many times he said he was going to stop then changed his mind,
- On November 3, 2008, DeFranco announced that his work on YouTube would come to an end November 3, 2009.[17] However, on his October 6, 2009, video, DeFranco announced he would continue the show beyond November 3, 2009,
- he posted a video on April 22, 2010 saying that the show has ended.
- April 26, 2010 DeFranco said he "needed to cancel the show", due to a contract he signed with a company "way back in the day" that allowed them to advertise his show which he would have to agree to. However DeFranco started a new show called "NSFW" or 'Not Safe For Work'.
So he has said it was cancelled or going to be cancelled a total of 3 times, the third time he renamed it.--Alizaa2 (talk) 10:42, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
Personal Life
editSomeone needs to fix this section. The grammar and organization is horrendous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.45.232.8 (talk) 05:45, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Personal Life section is poorly written
editIt is incoherent and does not follow any sort of logical order, chronological or otherwise. The quote at the end seems misplaced; I suggest someone who knows how to use Wikipedia reorders the information for the sake of readability. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.22.26.107 (talk) 19:22, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Additionally there is so much unimportant, useless information in this section that out makes me question why this person has a wiki entry at all; Dr Hawking doesn't have a page with this much information (although most of this page's info is useless and lowers the credibility of wiki) this page desperately needs to be gutted and minimized.
Request to change height

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.
The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.
Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 05:19, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Name change
editThis reddit comment states he has legally changed his last name to "DeFranco"[1], but right now this article still only describes it as only a stage name, listing his former name first. Perhaps this could be changed. Elzbenz (talk) 00:13, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
Bad references
editI removed all the refs that were based on YouTube inasmuch as this article is about a YouTube personality and so the refs are probably posted by this guy himself, or someone on his behalf. Likewise, SoundCloud, which does not have an editorial staff. I also suspect the vast majority of stuff on this page. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 17:16, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say that they're bad if they're just supporting references that don't drive the article. Tweets are accepted as citations. YouTube videos are AV media and therefore aren't "bad" just because they're YouTube videos. Soulbust (talk) 19:28, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
"Internet famous"
edit@Alizaa02: Philip DeFranco does not need achievements outside of YouTube to be an famous on the internet. Some people are in the category merely for being famous on Vine or Instagram. However, DeFranco does have nearly a million followers on Twitter, over a million on Facebook and over half a million on Instagram. He has a popular podcast on Soundcloud and numerous credits on IMDB as a producer and writer. What more do you need? Cheers, --SVTCobra (talk) 00:26, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
Proposed merge with The Philip DeFranco Show
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was no action taken. Daybeers (talk) 21:58, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
The person and the show are virtually indistinguishable. Many of the notability claims made here are, in fact, claims of notability for the person and not the show. -- HighKing++ 15:25, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- I generally support merges, but it looks like other channels like Sourcefed for which he's responsible have their own pages. Bangabandhu (talk) 05:40, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
- Bangabandhu, I think SourceFed is notable in its own right but I'm not seeing any notability for the Philip DeFranco Show in its own right. Looks like the notability is inherited from DeFranco. -- HighKing++ 13:12, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose: His show is notable in it's own right as a product, he's just the host of it. It's the same reason with Conan O'Brien and Conan are separate articles.
Fix the page please
editTHe last 6 edits are straight up vandalism, I would do it but I lost track of what's right and wrong, start by the height and we should be seriously considering some protection for the page. Johndark93 (talk) 09:27, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
Connection to the Alt-Right
editI feel that it would be in the best interest of the public to have Mr. DeFranco listed as having ties to the alt-right and neo-nazi sphere of influence on youtube. What this would effectively do is ensure that anyone who googles his name will take his words with a grain of salt as opposed to be subtly brainwashed by extremist groups that are associated with his channel and personna. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1004:B03E:9326:945D:6797:4B1C:F0F0 (talk) 20:39, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
- No source. Although it looks like a smear campaign is in the works. I will revert any edits from your IP address. Ikmxx (talk) 04:01, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
- You yourself have clearly watched some of Philip DeFranco's videos, therefore YOU likewise have ties to the alt-right and neo-nazis. Do you see how that works? The writer of the article has claimed it was not his intention to make that association, meaning it was nothing more than left-wing media clickbait/ragebait, and it worked like a charm. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.31.133.176 (talk) 14:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

I guess this is what we are talking about? --SVTCobra (talk) 16:17, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
As the NYT doesn't even go so far as to openly claim a link, this shouldn't be included and reverted on sight. Str1977 (talk) 09:57, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
I think instead of Defrancos content, people should be more concerned about claims of "connection", especially with the far-right/alt-right. These claims are usually made by leftists/leftists/progressives/SJWs. The people they "connect" with white nationalists falls on a huge spectrum. Yes this includes other neo-nazis but there are also moderates, liberals and sometimes even marxists. The word "connection" can be easily misunderstood as an endorsement, but in reality it's just interactions. In cases when non-alt-righters gets "connected" to alt-righters, interactions are more often than not hostile, meaning disagreements, debates and even insults and name calling. It's not only disingenuous, but arguably slanderous, to imply that all these political and even apolitical figures endorse white supremacy by having a "connection" Regarding what counts as alt-right, I think the defining characteristics of them are: an explicit belief of the supremacy of the white race and the belief that the west should be a white-only ethnostate (which I believe not only involves a complete halt, not control, of immigration, but also active removal and segregation of the non-white population). I consider people alt-right when they check off these boxes, and I consider people not alt-right when they don't meet these criteria. --45.78.11.73 (talk) 16:14, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- In stead of six degrees of separation they are doing "six degrees of connection" --SVTCobra (talk) 16:45, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
It might be worth noting here that the writer of the article has modified the online version of the article to note that DeFranco is not a member of the alt-right, and was just one of the people that the person the article is about watched. 172.58.38.156 (talk) 01:17, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
It's been a few weeks now. I believe we all agree that the unfounded accusations are to be reverted on sight. Also, since the New York Times writer has clarified that the photo was misinterpreted, in the future we will need to be careful to avoid low-quality sources that are re-hashing the misunderstood New York Times article. Ikmxx (talk) 06:35, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
Meeting Joe Biden
editThe article says:
- In January 2013, DeFranco announced that he would be meeting with United States Vice President Joe Biden to discuss the topic of gun laws.[44] Google's official blog revealed that the two, along with Guy Kawasaki would be discussing in a Google+ Hangout.[45] The discussion moderator was revealed to be PBS NewsHour's Hari Sreenivasan.[46]
While this is probably just the typical lazy editing along the lines of "Let's include annoucement after announcement without bothering about when the even actually happened", I am nevertheless wondering whether the event happened. Which really would be noteworthy, whereas some announcemens 6 years ago that never led to anything are not. Str1977 (talk) 09:57, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- PS. I have found footage of the hangout so it took place. I am rewording the passage to reflect this, also removing superfluous information like who the moderator was. However, this is still lacking proper sourcing as a youtube video, which is actually an onion-based review of the event isn't suitable for this. Str1977 (talk) 10:10, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- If you want the full broadcast as published by the Obama administration's official YouTube channel, it is here. Cheers, --SVTCobra (talk) 15:01, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- I wasn't looking for the broadcast to watch as I'm not really interested in the matter (though I have included it for the time being as a ref). I was looking for proper reference to source that the event happened (YT videos are discouraged for that). All this covering of announcements is a huge grievance on WP. Str1977 (talk) 17:57, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe this will do. Approved on WP:RSP. Cheers --SVTCobra (talk) 18:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

about YouTube videos, however. --SVTCobra (talk) 19:10, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Career 2017-present missing from article
editOn 12 October, a revision was made to eliminate poorly sourced text. While I agree with the editor's decision, it unfortunately left a big hole in the article (DeFranco's career 2017-present, post-Discovery's shuttering of Revision3. I've added a 'missing information' tag to the top of the page, and I've rescued what (poorly-sourced) material there used to be, here below. Hopefully someone with knowledge of this area can com in and rebuild the section in the article with quality sources. —Shrinkydinks (talk) 10:17, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

New sources
editI found some possible useful sources to add from old videos, to try and develop the early parts of the article. I made the list at Talk:Philip DeFranco/Possible sources.
- he was producing videos in October and November 2016 with his then partner "misjudi"
- the earliest upload found was in November 7, 2006
- December 18, 2006 said he was still in NY, will then go to my moms, and then back home
- April 25, 2007 arrived home in Asheville, NC Right now I'm staying at my Mom's house
- April 25, 2007 Arrived at the old house and thought I'd give you a glimpse of my Westie and horses. I am in Asheville, NC for the next 7 days...then off to Hawaii..the big island.....then San Diego for 2 days....Tampa for 5 days...then finally NY.
A Conversation With
editShould the YouTube channel, "A Conversation With" be added to his infobox and Career? It is a podcast available as audio to listen to and as a video on YouTube. The channel was created in 2019, and he interviews people off and on YouTube. Sawhitney36 (talk) 16:46, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
