Name Spelling

His name is spelled Phillippe Aumont with 2 L's and P's. The Toronto Star and montreal gazette (Canadian newspapers) both say his name is spelled like this.Joesixpac 17:19, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Provisional oppose. I checked three francophone sources: CBC French, and two Montreal newspapers (ones that seem to get a lot of national mention whenever discussing Quebecois issues).
- SRC (the French CBC) gives no ghits for phillippe; 45 for philippe; and 2 for phillipe
- La Presse gives 2 ghits for phillippe; 3030 for philippe; and 5 for phillipe
- Le Devoir gives 2 ghits for phillippe; 1 for philippe; and none for phillipe
Now, I know Google is not the "sees all, knows all" on usage, but it can be useful for establishing a general pattern. SRC and La Presse seem to distinctly prefer one l, two p’s, by an overwhelming margin in the latter case; Le Devoir I can't peg one way or t'other. I think the spelling of the lad's name needs to be determined for sure before we move it, lest we have to move it again; the say-so of two anglo papers is not enough to make a decision on. --SigPig |SEND - OVER 05:17, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- The MLB site spells it with two l's and two p's...if that helps at all! --Nightfreak 02:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - The Phillippe Aumont article already exists as a redirect to Phillipe Aumont (see here). I did that here, thinking that one "p" was the correct spelling, as was originally shown on the MLB site here, and because the one-p spelling version was already an established article prior to the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. Deeply sorry if I got it backwards, but this redirection can be easily changed around if the two "p" spelling is proven to be correct. Good heavens, can someone call his mother? She should know how he spells his name. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 02:24, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, but is she a reliable source? Do we cite her as: "Phillippe Aumonte <ref>His mom said so!</ref> Or is using her a conflict of interest? Or would she be "momcruft"? :D --SigPig |SEND - OVER 02:30, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- But, seriously, folks, up until the time someone actually does telephone/email/text/channel Mme Aumont, does anyone know how he spells his name? Like in a photo of an autograph? --SigPig |SEND - OVER 02:34, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- In English language sources, the double-l, double-p seems to be overwhelmingly more common. I'm in Seattle, and could drop by the Mariners' stadium and ask someone. Maybe I can get something in writing. -GTBacchus(talk) 05:26, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Infobox
editThe infobox should be removed because he doesn't play for the Seattle Mariners, he hasn't even signed yet i don't think. When he makes the majors, then the info box should be used.69.158.123.202 21:51, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Requested move
editHe is listed as "Phillippe" (2 L's, 2 P's) under the list of 2007 Draft picks on the Mariners' official site[1], and a recent article regarding his progress in Class A minor league ball also has his name spelt as "Phillippe"[2]. Pandacomics (talk) 08:24, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
